A little fun in the snow

Took my wife and daughter out for a little sledding today. I really just wanted to try out my new tires.

Looks like fun. So how did he new tires do? It just makes me want my new tires to be on even more!

They are amazing. I had them siped also and they really grip. I was in over a foot of snow and never had a problem. Even when I hit the throttle a little to try to spin it wouldn't. I had to stomp on it to break tracktion. I slammed on the brakes on icey snow pack and stopped w/ very minimal slipping. I was impressed. I havn't siped tires before but will from now on.

what do u mean by siped???
 
those tires look sweet how much did they cost?

A machine makes lots of cuts across the tread from side to side. It cuts about half way into the tread giving them greater flexibility. The cuts are spaced about 1/4 of an inch apart. When the tread flexes it gives many more edges to grip and bite. Better for snow and ice. It is supposed to increase the life of the tires also.

Colony Tire right now is running a buy one get one half off on Mastercraft tires..I priced out some Courser M/Ts..32x11.5 for only $663 including all the goodies!!!! Thats as close as I've ever found to Ebay (I don't like buying ebay..)

And this makes me not only want new tires on..but some deep snow in general...NC is kinda lame sometimes

r u able to do the siped to used tires? mine r bout half way worn

Yeah,  it just wont be as deep of sipes

aight hmm i'll have to think about it.  myronhntr80 do u have a pic of the tire tread up close?

Some shops won't sipe a tire if it is not brand new. Liability reasons. If you can find a shop to do it I would. If there is any snow packed or icey roads you should test your braking distances before and after siping. It would be interesting to find out the difference.

aight sweet thanks! haha ya with the testing it wont be hard to find a spot lol it just snowed here the other day lol i'll see what shops can do it. also is it possible to do it myself?? or is the machine set up for it specifically?
 
also since i drive on the road alot would the sipes wear quickly by driving on dry road alot? or do they spread water and get good traction w/ water like they do the snow/ice?

They are supposed to wear worse if you drive on gravel A LOT. Occasional driving on gravel should not be a problem. On highway they are supposed to wear better because of their greater flexability. Like I said before, This is the first set of tires that I have had siped. My brother always sipes his tires. I'm not sure if you would sipe all terrains or just mud terrain tires.
 
Do not attempt to do it yourself. The machine that does it is specifically built for this single purpose. You could easily ruin a perfectly good set of tires trying on your own. Plus on the safety side of things...

aight i was just curious cuz basically its just cutting more tread into the tire so i thought there might be a chance of me doin it myself but i guess not. thats fine i'll look around for some shops that might be able to do it for me
