So I finsihed wiring it all up ... I have to ground the amp better because it kept going out...

Problem is it is very distorted! How do I adjust my settings for a better quality sound

I did the DMM 38.7V at the speakers for the gain
I have the X set at 80hz
and the bass boost is about half way up

What should my headunit settings be for the bass?

Any more imput would be great!

(One of my co workers kept saying buy a cap!!!! your ganna fry your amp! I seriously almost smacked him!)

Can you list your equipment?  Are you saying that the sub is distorted?

Yea the sub is distorted...sound wise

I have a kicker zx750.1
and an alpine type R 15" in a homemade ported enclosure...

Just a couple general setting. You amp gain should not be set any higher than 75%. And all bass EQ settings on your head unit should be set at 0 or flat...

If they are all set at 0 then my sub doesnt even turn on...

turn the bass boost on the amp all the way down. Back off on the gain a little bit too.

first off, fix your ground.  then play with settings!  lift up the cover panel for the back seats.  On drivers side, right next to the trim for the back panels, there is a strap that the seat is bolted to.  there is a 19mm bolt that isnt really doing anything.  take that off, sand it down to get to bare metal, and bolt that baby down.

just curious to as how you came up with 38.7 volts cause that is around ~750 watts into two ohms which im guessing with that amp. which would most likely not be a clean 750 watts. but what vc's on the sub? and no bass boost!

I did it with the link hillbilly posted

MY amp is rated at 750 RMS  at 2 ohms = 38.7V

I was in a rush installing this so I grounded it in the jack area...bad idea !

One second i would have bass the next second I wouldnt!

Its a alpine type R 4ohm DVC

another MSPaint-saves-the-day picture...

currently my zx750.1 is grounded to [B] but i need to find a larger connector to fit around [A] which, i think, is the preferred ground

this would be looking in from the passenger side rear door with the seats folded down and the flap up.

They said it was on the drivers side....

Ill just find the 19mm bolt that looks useless and go from there haha

even though it is rated as such, it might not be a clean (clipped) signal that could be causing your distortion. Have you tried backing down on the gain?

I use some bass boost on my sundown....yet its distortion free.....to a certain point that im never going to cross anywho.

Ok its all good now...still a little distortion but tis a 15' so no complaining..

Now when I really turn it up...like 25

My battery guage goes from just over 14 to just under 14...back and fourth....and a little dimming but not extreme dimming...

When its at about level 20 it just stays at 14....

Is this going to be a problem in the future?

not too bad for voltage.  have you upgraded the charging and ground wires under your hood (ie Big 3)

No not yet... but my alternator is whinning like crazy! but I think its just a bearing since it was doing it before I installed my system
