i have a 98 blazer. I am going to have a 1000 watt amp for my sub. I am wondering if i sould get a new alternator. I am also wondering how many amps the alternator should be. Can anyone help me?

no, you wont need a new alt. Is that amp 1000RMS or peak?

have you done any research at all or are you just wanting to buy things because of hearing what other people have done? Im not trying to be a jerk. It just seems like you are just wanting to buy these things because of rumors. I would suggest doing research as to how electronics work (amperage, impedence, electrical flow) and then try installing your own system.

well not to be a jerk but i have done a lot of research and i am instaling my amp and sub right now. Its ok tho i see what you mean. I just had a few extra questions that i wanted a personal opinion on and thats why i come here to the forum.

I had my alternator rewound for a few extra amps 15-20... but it needed rebuilt anyways. I would suggest running 0/1 ga wire and upgrading the big 3. That should be plenty for 1000w amp on a stock charging sytem.

im runnning a factory alt in my blazer atm with 1 4000d i get some pretty wicked voltage drop but no alt troubles u should be fine with 1000 with no upgrades i would deffinatly go with aught guage tho the big 3 is a good idea. dosent make a really big diffrence tho unless u get into some big power.

If you are having power sags why not install a storage capacitor ahead of your amp to smoothout the sags?

Hell just go ahead a buy the biggest most expensive one you can find-that'll cover it!
But seriously.........just try what you have and if it works fine. If not then upgrade. That is what I would do.

"power sags" or voltage drops will not be fixed by adding a cap
