Amp Woes...SOLVED! Who'da Thought This

I pulled in to get gas a few weeks ago, stereo working fine. When I started my Blazer back up, the amp never kicked on. I've heard them 'go out' when you start a car, but I heard nothing. The amp is a Kenwood sub amp, 1000 watt. I felt it, it was actually cold. The power is getting through the distribution block, because my x-over was still lit up. The fuse in the d-block was fine, the leads were tight to the power and ground d-blocks. The leads were tight on the amp, and the fuse on the amp was fine. I'm stumped.

This could be bad.............. lol

check it with a test light, also check that your getting power at your remote on wire, and check your ground.

yea take a dmm to it and see if its actually getting power. check the fuses on ur amp if it has external fuses

The power light on the amp is not coming on...I checked my ground, but not the remote...I'll try it. I checked the fuse on the amp twice. Oh, the amp has less than 1 year of use on it...BUT, it's been in storage for over 2 years, so no warranty there.
damnit

Try the remote line. Cause it seems like its not getting the 12v signal telling the amp that it needs to power up.
If thats not it post abck up and I'll let ya know a more complicated option

Good point...remote wire...mmm...
The more complicated option...does it involve cussing and throwing amplifiers while trying not to break any window glass? 'Cause brother...do I have THAT technique down.

lol It might if theres bad news!
But it'll involve removing the back plate and testing the board's key parts for burnt peices with the DMM
But i think it's the Remote line

x2....check the remote into the amp and into the HU

OK...I dunno what "x2", "HU", or "DMM" mean.

It means check that remote line, thats where its at.
x2 means "i second that"
HU is Head Unit, or the radio
Don't know DMM

if you have a test light and you are playing around in a car, throw it away!! can blow airbags and all kinds of funky stuff. go to walmart and get a DMM for 25 bucks, or I can sell you my brand new craftsman for 30 bucks plus shipping. Check your ground wire and remote wire.

i got a craftsman for 12 bucks, and i love it. Its a good thing to have anyway.

OK, I hooked up my "DMM" to all my connections, everything is getting power. So, I have full power in to the amp, the amp's external fuses are good, so it has to be inside the amp. I'm gonna remove the shell here in a bit...isn't there a small fuse on the inside?

not sure if your amp has em on the inside also. I know all of mine are internal. Check for burnt MOSFET's or just anythign that looks toasted inside.
EDIT:
Make things easier! Do you have a spare amp lyin around? Like a small one or an older one that works. If so wire that up real quick and see if they bump at all. If they do ur amps toasted.

eeeeeeeeek. i hope you have a warranty, because that's something internal.

That's the problem...the amp has maybe a year of use on it...but I bought it 3+ years ago...no warranty.

what kind of amp is it? i mean, 2 channel, monoblock, what brand, size?

2 chanel, Kenwood KAC 81010. I tried hooking up my old amp, and it wouldn't come on either. I'm stumped.
When I tested it on the remote and ground, I got 12v. When I tested it power and ground, I got 1v. What does that mean?

something is way off in your wiring bro. I dont think you get a reading measuring your ground O.o

I think it's my lack of experience with a tester...maybe I'll read the manual tonight.

OK...today, I'm going to bypass the x-over, and wire the amp directly. If this doesn't work, looks like I'll have a Kenwood anchor for my bass boat.

So far I've:
-checked the ground
-checked the main lead
-checked the remote lead
-checked all fuses, main lead fuse, distribution block, and external amp fuse
-checked it with another amp that didn't come on (but that amp was damaged anyway)
-tested with my DMM, it reads 12v remote and ground, and 1.09v main lead and ground (12v reading came in with amp hooked up as it was)
-disconnected my x-over which IS powering up, and wired the amp directly to those leads
-opened the amp up, but everything looked brand new on the board
I'm still not getting the amp to power up. Keep in mind, this is the only amp I have hooked to this system, so I can't check it with a component amp. Can anyone think of anything I've overlooked? Would it do me any good to pull my head unit? It seems like I would get a 12v reading when testing the main power line, and ground...but it consistently comes up with 1.09v at the x-over, d-blocks, and amp.
I really appreciate everyone trying to help me. This is what makes the Blazer Forum a great place. Thanks!
