I have been getting calls from 877-276-3327 for the past couple of days now.  No messages, no voicemails, nothing.  Here is what I have done thus far:

"Have received numerous calls.  1. 1/22/08 @ 3:10PM  2. 1/23/08 @1:44PM  3. 1/25/08 @10:18AM  (Called them back shortly after to see who it was at 10:27AM on the same day)  4. 1/25/08 @12:34PM  (This time did some research before calling them back and returned the call at 12:41PM).

Got an answer almost immediately.  Informed the man I needed to speak with Shawn McGraw and he asked for an extension number.  I told him I didn't know,  he just left a message saying to call him back at this number.  He said please hold while I try to locate him.  Came back 20 seconds later saying: (TM=telemarketer)

(TM)"I'm sorry, we don't have a Shawn McGraw listed in our company directory."
(ME)"Well who's been calling me and leaving messages?"
(TM)"I don't know, we don't have anyone by that name here."
(ME)"Alright, here's what's going to happen.  You guys are going to stop calling me.  If the calls don't stop, I will be reporting this number to my local Federal authorities."
(TM)"If that will make you feel better sir, go ahead and do that."
(ME)"I also wanted to let you know that this number is plastered all over the internet as being a scam to collect CC information."
(TM)"Which number?"
(ME)"877-276-3327"
(TM)"I'm sorry sir, our number is 877-2-FOUR-6-3327" (emphasis his)
(ME)"You're kidding right?  I'm looking at my recent call list and the number I have on my screen and it says 877-276-3327.  That's odd."
(TM)"That is odd.  Hold on, let me call that number."
He puts me on hold, 'calls the number' then returns.
(TM)"There is only silence when I call that number."
(ME)"Are you sure it wasn't a busy tone because you're calling from your own number?"
(TM)"No, it's not our number sir."
(ME)"Are you a comedian on the side or something?  This is hilarious!  How do you explain my call list with this number calling me 3 times in the past week?"
(TM)"What's your problem sir?  I'm just trying to do my job and you're making fun of me."
(ME)"Getting a little unprofessional aren't we?"
(TM)"You're the one being unprofessional here."
(ME)"It's not my job to be professional, it's your job to take the calls and..."
And he proceeded to hang up on me.

Just wanted to share this info with the online community.
Caller ID: 8772763327"

I called them again a few minutes later and all I get is "All of our representatives are blah blah blah, please hold for our next available representative" for five minutes straight.  Odd, the first two times I called they picked up right away!  My Wife called our cell provider and had them uncheck the option to allow solicitors to call us (don't know how it got checked off in the first place).  We'll see if the calls continue...

Forgot to add, I got that name from a website (here) and it apparently worked for a guy last month so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Do Not Call lists are great.  Do it and do it now!  Only problem is remembering to re-up your status because you will come off the list after a certain amount of time has passed.  That whole industry should be dismantled.  The scams that run on a daily basis with no regard for decency are just outrageous.

The next step you can do is to call your cell provider and complain to them about it.

Yeah it's a scam I know.  Like I said I did some research before I called back the second time.  The basic gist of it is they call and confirm you have a CC (some people have reported they don't even have one, nor have they ever applied) so they can get the info.  Confirm address, sometimes they're even bold enough to ask for a general physical description, then...make off with your money.  I may be a whipper-snapper, but I have learned when something isn't right a long time ago.  I guess I picked that up from my Dad, I like to keep telemarketers on the line as long as possible just to mess with them because it prevents them from making more calls and potentially making money.

I remember my college roommate my freshman year told me he pulled one on a telemarketer once (at home, not college).  Someone kept calling and my roommate pretended he was suicidal and really depressed.  Long story short he poured his soul out to the telemarketer then told him he was going to end his life, set the phone down, went outside and fired his shotgun and 'collapsed'.  Never got a call back.

Wow the link and the story are a funny way of dealing with telemarketers. I have only stayed on the line and acted interested in the product, and talking to them about the specifications of it or what not, and then like 20 minutes later tell them "I am sorry I am no longer interested in your product, and please don't call back."

They can set up their phone system to display any number they want.  Its actually pretty easy.  From my work when I call out from my direct line it comes up a completely different number than my actual number.  Not to hard to believe they are probably putting a completely different number their so you cant call them back.

But I agree Do Not Call List FTW.

Yeah I just got a text the other day along those lines. I don't know who it was from or what it was for since I don't text normally and didnt open it. But the first couple words were along the lines or financing and it was form some area code out west.

Keep an eye out on a number that shows it's from Phoenix AZ.  It is also a scam and has been hitting most everyone I know on there cell phones.  My mother-n-law had one asking for SS numbers and CC numbers, it's getting crazy.

I get calls from Florida and New Jersy.  I ask them to give me all the details they have, then I put the phone down and leave the room.
Sometimes if I'm bored I'll actually chat with them for a while and then ask them if they've enjoyed wasting their time with me.

If all else fails, tell them you're busy eating the person that they're looking for, because they looked at you funny.
