How did you set that up? Did you go through a talent agency? Besides running my husbands clinic I'm a freelance photstylist, so I've done shots like this and I'm just curious. Did you get your sponsors to pay or did you foot the bill? I was thinking of hiring a model and getting all the gear heads w/hot cars together and charging a flat rate for a shoot. Obviously I've gotta wait until spring now. (It's 37 degrees right now)

talusgirl, I put ads up for models for a website that I had co-founded, and had gotten many replies. I went through all the aps, and chose ten of the ones I thought were the best. There was supposed to be five girls, but only one showed up. Thats the only problem working with models, they all think their sh*t don't stink. The girl in my photoshoot is Elise. She is a professional model from the Boston, MA area, and was a sweetheart to work with. The whole shoot lasted three hours, and we had agreed on $50, but I doubled it because I was so happy with the results. I gave her a copy of all the photos for her to use in her portfolio, and from that one job, I did three more shoots for her friends. Yes, I did all the pics myself, for a flyer for Hot Import Nights. The best suggestion I can give, is to hit the local hangout, and scout out some attractive girls. Offer them a portfolio, and like $50 bucks, and invite their boyfriends. I found that local, unprofessional girls are much easier to work with, and they are cheaper too.
Oh, one of the shoots I did last winter was in my friends auto repair garage. I put the cars on the lifts, about a foot off the ground, and had the girls dress in jumpsuits unbuttoned the the navel... just an idea for you in the bad weather.

I find women all over the place too. I'll attach a pic of one I discovered at a shoe store. I work w/a proffessional fashion photographer and just do a 'test shoot'. I don't pay them but just offer them my services (professional hair/makeup) and about 5 different looks for their portfolio. I met one at a bar that turned out to be a former 'Snap-on Tools' Calender girl. Problem is people are so suspicious-I have to show them my book so they don't think I'm just trying to hit on them (and I'm straight). Usually if you go through a talent agency you've go t to pay 60-90 an hour. And I ALWAYS get them to sign a model's release form. I was just curious how you went about it. You did a really great job, and I went to photography school. Good eye!!

LOLO, I'm glad you like them
Talus, wow, that is a really nice head shot. I always wanted to go to photography school, but I never really had the extre money to go. I know that I have a pretty good eye, but I criticize my work way too much, and think people will do the same. I also had some buisness cards made up, to break the ice with girls that I meet, or I have my girlfriend talk to them.

The third one is me with my almost-stepson (not married yet). The last one was taken at the beach near my house...save that pic, and zoom in on the spot to the right of thr top window, and tell my what you see... very strange.

Do you mean where that circle is-where it's highlighted?
You don't need to go to photoschool-some people need to learn composition and lighting, others have a natural eye. You've got both. What gets you jobs is your book. Buy a reflector and use that as your second light. You can get ones that fold down and have a silver side and a gold (for warmth) side. That way you can fill in your shadows, that and over-expose a bit more for detail when you do people. That's my 2 cents of advice for anyone that's listening..
I would like to shoot cars. Chrome has it's own set of challenges. You can always tell an amatuer when you can see their reflection. I was thinking of setting up a shoot in spring. Getting some "hot chicks" and offering a couple angles for a flat fee. I'm always getting asked by my Harley/chopper/gear head friends.

Thanks for the advice. I can always use help, or another set of eyes to guide me along. That spot has a face in it... look close, and its not a reflection, or the sunset. Let me know what you see

This is going to sound weird, but I see a dragon head. No, not Barney either. I suck at these type of things...

well, you are right... there is some-sort of face in it, but in the next shot I took, it was gone
