I'd say check out The Webster Underground here in Hartford CT. It's right next door to a major concert venue (The Webster Theater). Usually when a big band books the theater, in between sets, people venture over to the underground and check out the scene over there. Sometimes even if the main stage is a band that plays the same music as the smaller stage, then they will open up the door to connect the two areas. It's a smaller venue, but they pack people in there like sardines lol. Check it out at
www.webstertheater.com. A friend of mine's hardcore band booked a show at the underground one night, and he drew a fairly large crowd, even on a night that didn't have a main stage show.
