well after i finally realized that beating my original x-box games over and over agian would get boring and seeing that newer PC games are not aloud on this computer. I wanted to go back to my old school games.

So i loaded a game called Battlezone by activision. came out around 95 great game but my newer computer doesn't like thinking slow  and i need some help

first of all activision tried to do too much with this game (way to much graphics for it's time) so it's already unstable but after i got the game to actually play, when you go into the game you can move, fire, die, all complete with great sound. but the screen freezes so you get a picture. usually it refreshes every 5 min not good in a fast moving game. the only problem i can see is that my screen or video card can only go down to 800x600 and the game has one setting 680x240 so can anyone help me to get this running casue it's one of the great classics you can't ever retire

Older games rarely work well on new hardware.  Most of my old games just refuse to work on XP even in compatability mode.

If you have a MOBO that allows it you can sometimes clock your processor down to a minimum that might let you play it, but it never is a cut and dry thing when these old games are trying to run on new equipment.

From Wiki

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlezone_(1998_video_game)#Playability_on_modern_computers

Despite its age and use of the obsolete DirectX5 graphics interface, Battlezone can be played on PCs running Windows XP provided that the game is patched to version 1.4 and Data Execution Prevention is disabled for this application. On a Windows Vista platform, the game can only be played in Direct3D-mode with a NVIDIA graphics card.

Hope this helps.

vista and lcd moniter. But i have had some succes i got it to the point of almost playability. the screen will refressh about every 6 seconds. not quite consistant but i messed around with the 3d graphics and still no help. i looked for this 1.4 version patch thats supposed to fix everything but i don't know how to add the patch to the program. it wants to download as a limewire file.

Ya, I do alot of computer work and "moving" (def. not an upgrade) to Vista was the worst OS decision I've ever made. But MS is just 98'ing, Me'ing us again by releasing a basically beta OS only to subsequently release a real quality product in the next year or so... Windows 7. Well, they make the big $$$ for a reason, ya know, and it ain't by playing nice. LOL.

You should realize that 95-XP operating systems were all xp base....vista is the new system, and windows 7 will be a vista base OS.

And I guess you don't remember when XP launched....xp blue screened daily and after every update, wouldn't run most 95-98 programs, and was overall unstable.  Vista only causes issues when you're trying to run 1)proprietary or 2)old software/devices.

And thor:  why are you so set on running a win95 game on Vista?  It doesn't seem to like it one bit .  You could try setting up a Virtual Box...do you have old XP discs, or is Battlezone linux-friendly?
