if i crank my t-bars for a 1-2" lift, will my cv joints only wear out if im in 4hi-lo, or will they still wear out with the 4x4 not engaged?

They will still wear out just as fast in 2wd. They still turn whenever the wheels turn.

agreed.

1'' shouldn't cause you any problems CV wise, but 2''...that could cause some issues.

Speaking from experience, if there is a bit of mileage on your cv's the boot is probably gonna let loose at some point from the t-bar lift. I did mine at about 120-130k on the ticker and about 5k miles later the cv's went. I changed them and i got about 15k or so on the new ones and they dont appear to show any signs of stress or fracture.

Even on my originals, it wasnt the rubber boot that let go but rather the clamp on the wide end of the boot. Were it not for debris that got in there i could have put a new clamp on and called it a day.

Anyways, my point here is that you cv's have a chance to pop. When and where is unknown but if they do go, its not the end of the world. You can drive with a messed up cv-boot for a little while until you can get it changed. Changing cv's isnt that bad either if you got a good set of tools and a little bit of common sense. (also DC Flux's how-to on changing CV's is really handy info too)
