I have a 93 s10 blazer w/ the Vortec v6. Unfortunatly, the crankshaft bearing has been shredded. Would it be easier to swap a junkyard engine, or try to fix it? If i have to swap can I use the nonVortec v6?

either way your gonna have to pull your motor. and you should be able to use a non vortec motor

I figured I would have to pull it...I can get a junkyard tbi v6 for $400, and I have a garage to work in. now the question of affordability enters the picture. would it be cheaper to replace or fix the engine?

On the replace or repair, it all depends on the extent of the damage and the repairs required.  If it were me and the crank wasn't damaged too much, I would have touched up and then do a full rebuild on the motor, heads and all.  Then you know exactly what you have.  With a junkyard motor, unless you go through and rebuild it or atleast tear it down, you really have no idea what you're putting into your truck.

Can I pull and rebuuild it for less than $500? Thats not getting it bored out, and keeping as much as i can...this would also be my first rebuild...so I would be taking my time. At this point its been sitting for almost a year now.
