Can't wait to claim those college credits again this year. Another $1500 refund would be quite nice.

Oh yeah, I know I won't get it all back but I paid just over $700 in interest on my school loan payment. Just wish the end of JAN would get here quicker so I could get my W-2's.

my employer sent ours out at the beginging of Janurary...I filed mine for free on line...should be in my bank account some time this week! Of course...it's going straight to savings...(need an emergency fund) it's not much...but enough ...I make sure the government doesn't handle any more of my money than absolutely necessary...greedy bastards...

I probably won't get anything back, I just hope to not have to pay again. I used to love tax time now I hate it, but I am not giving my money to the gov. to hold for me just for a refund.

Yeah $800 for individuals, $1600 for married if your income is below $110,000 for the couple. Sorry, can't remember the salary amount for single, maybe $85,000? Either way my Wife and I fall WELL below those numbers. They're not sure when it will go through (if at all). Some remembered the last time it happened and they didn't get the extra $$$ until June (the buzz began in JAN). Also, I've also heard that it may just be added to next year's refund (in 2009 for the 2008 year). But I highly doubt that will happen because the purpose is to boost the economy right now.
I was a little offended by one article I read saying that it needs to be put in a certain income bracket because those are the people who will spend it right away. Makes us out to be greedy little money-mongers who can't save cash.

That would be stupid. All a refund means is your paying to much during the year. So now everyone gets a rebate regardless of what they pay in? If I pay say 2k to much during the year I only get 800 back? I dont listen to the Democrats so I wouldnt know WTH they are talking about.
Personally I think the Fair Tax System would be perfect. Abolish ALL other taxes and impose just one flat tax like 12%. So if you make 50k a year you get 50k a year not 35 or whatever it would be. Then on everything excluding I think food you would have a 12% tax rate. And if you make a certain amount you would be excluded from all taxes.
I read the book about this a while ago but kind of lost some of it since then. If anyone is interested to learn more read The Fair Tax Book.

It's an additional $800 on top of whatever your regular return would be. Or $1600 for married couples.

i thought the $800 dollar bonus wasnt really related to taxes... i was under the impression its just a gift, regardless of if you overpay your taxes. i thought they were just trying to give people some money in hopes that the people will spend it and boost the economy. im all up for free money but if i know theres a recession headed our way, im not gonna spend it right away. this is probably the case for quite a few people
thats assuming im right, my manager at work was talking about it but i havent watched the news in a week or so, so i really dont know all the details

Cursory research shows that if it goes through, it will actually be a rebate on past paid taxes like the last one that was $300 or so.
VID I know what I'd do with an 'extra' $1600. Ok, well maybe I don't because I'd love to buy stuff, but I'd also like to take care of a couple cards. That would take care of three cards in one fell swoop.
