So I've been researching televisions because I really wanted a new one.  I finally bought one on Monday night.  Unfortunately I dont have $4k sitting around for an AMAZING HDTV but for a "good" one... and for a good price...

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8386285&type=product&id=1181831586462

Anyway, I didn't bother to take pictures of it, becuase you can see pics on the website and search around for reviews, as well as best buy's reviews...

but what a difference it makes!

That doesn't look like too bad of a price there Dory!  Congrats on the purchase.  I have been mulling over putting an LCD or DLP projector in my basement...  LOL'

I think I remember seeing the one that felony is talking about and it was only 720P.  Looked decent though.  For what I would do with it, 720P would be right as rain.  No HDDVD or Bluray in my immediate future!

get at least 1080i...   i can definately tell a diference in 1080 vs 720 but i dont see much difference between interlace and progressive scan. i dont really see how one is better than the other.

since the ps3 has blu ray does that mean itl work o nthe tv or the tv has 2 be blu ray????

that means a the PS3 will read a bluray disc. a tv will display whatever signal it recieves but if you have an older tv or a 720p tv, bluray wont look that much different than a regular dvd...    ideally, you would want to hook up a 1080p TV to it but a regualr tv will still work with a PS3

Get a upconvert 1080p DVD player. They go for $50.00 to $80.00.. It's a standard dvd player that converts ur standard dvd's into HD quality dvds. It comes with a HDMI cable and the picture clarity is great. Def can tell a difference between a regular dvd player and a upconvert dvd player when playing side by side. A few friends of mine have it and swear by it. It's the cheapest way from getting a blue-ray or HD dvd player.

BTW Dory awsome tv!

otnietdehoooo is correct in his statement. The only reason why you need a Blue Ray DVD player is the way that the laser reads the info stored on the disc. The disc is now able to hold like 50GB of media, but is stored in much smaller things on the disc. So the laser and processor must be more finely tuned to be able to read the new disc format. So as long as you have the PS3 you will be able to play blueray discs and view them on any TV with whatever connectors come off the PS3 (RCA, S-Video, or HDMI). THe best way to view the Blue Ray discs would be thru a 1080p LCD or Plasma TV or a 1080P Projector. Hope that helps.

My roommate brought a 32" Westinghouse down to campus... it definitely looks good in the dorm. The room across the hall has the same one you bought.

I'm kind of attached to my dvd player.  LOL!  I got it like two years ago off ebay, it plays literally EVERYTHING... AVI, MPEG, DIVX, XVID, NTSC, PAL, REGION FREE... NAME IT!!  So I don't really fancy having to do research to find an HD one that does all that... i think i'll just leave my dvd player as is for now... unless you are telling me that i can convert MY dvd player to HD?  if so, put a link on here as to what i need!
