Welcome to the forum.
Sorry, I'm about 3000 miles away. I'm not real sure but I think $1600 is about twice the amount the job is worth...parts included.
A skilled mechanic should be able to do the job in about 8 hours.
Make a few phone calls and get more estimates.
See if the people you're talking to sound confident, you don't wanna deal with someone who's just guessing.

Also just a thought, maybe call a few other local places since you know what the problem is and just ask them how much for the repair? Like I said to you the other day, thats a crazy price!

Thanks for trying to help me. I guess I'm going to have to check into other garages for some more help. If anyone has any suggestion please let me know.

Thanks.

dont be afraid to do it yourself, if you have the time to spare to do it.

its not a terribly difficult job, just time consuming. get a chilton manual and it will walk you through the whole thing. the only special tool you need other than a standard set of sockets is a torque wrench. autozone rents them out. it would cost you less than $100 to do it yourself. dont be afraid, its only nuts and bolts!!!
