Hi everyone! My name is Russ, I live in Canada near Calgary Alberta, and I am deciding to join your forum. I recently sold my 1991 Grand Prix GTP and am now looking to buy a 1999-2001 4 Door Blazer LS to replace my car. I was wondering if any of you can tell me common problems with a Blazer that is in between those years and any other useful information. Anyone on here who is into GM's W-Bodies, the forums at w-body.com are very useful, and my username there is rjtiminskygtp. So hi to everyone, and thanks for your replies!

Thanks for the Welcome. What kind of Mechanical problems...big mechanical or not. If it's worth anything I won't be doing hardcore 4x4ing, I'll juts be around town, down the highway...maybe the occassional dig session. I know when I was 8 or 9 my mom had a 1996 Blazer LS 4 Door...what a dream vehicle, the way it rode, and it was so nice seeings as it was our first Brand New vehicle, and we had no problems with it what-so-ever. The only money that went into it was gas and regular maintenance

won't have many problems with a blazer, an occaisonal ball joint, but that's about it. I've got a 170k on my 97 and no major problems yet, all pray for me since I just said that./

What really caught my attention with the Blazer's is that V6...I hear the 4.3 is damn near bulletproof, which is what I need. My Grand Prix Nickeled and Dimed me to death and when I sold it **** was still needing fixing. That 3.4 DOHC was a wicked good motor, I had almost no problems with that motor, it was everything else haha. So I am hoping when I buy a BLazer I'll have no more monsterous mechanic bills.

I always love to hear good things about my blazer, since, of course, I have a 1996 4-door LS.

I'd agree. That body will rust off the frame (which is what MINE is doing) before that engine quits. Yep, just basic maintenance of everything will keep this truck running for a LONG time. And since you're near Calgary, you'll be happy with the 4x4 in the winter. I actually hardly used mine last winter...the only time I really remember using it was Christmas day on a road trip from Oshawa to London, ON.

Welcome to the site. I'm sure you'll love your Blazer. My Blazers are all old, but so am I. Lots of Blazer knowledge on this site.

I have a 2000 2 door blazer with nearing 80k miles on it... and i've had SOME repairs but I bought it second hand and my guess is that the previous owner reallly just didnt take care of it.

I have a 97 with 167k miles on it and the only probs I have had is ball joints and a few tranny probs(my blazer was a factory 5 spd and the guy that had it before me blew the 5 spd and put in an auto. Then I blew the auto and went to put in a 5 spd but the cheapest I could find one for was $1000, and thats outta my budget. 2 more autos later and I got a 5spd again.) but you should have that prob. lol

I talked to the owner of a perspective new vehicle...2000 Blazer 4 door 4x4, and he is replacing the ball joints at 124 000 kms (roughly 77 500 miles) as well as brakes, shocks and belts...is this a good thing or should I take it as a sign that he drove the bag off of it?

BAll joints are typical. If you buy it make sure you grease them monthly so you get as much life out of them as possible. I'd say he's replacing typical things at this point and it's nothing to worry about.
