Hi-flow Cat

So I think my next upgrade will be the Magnaflow hi-flow cat. A new muffler is good, but the cat is still 12 years old and rusted.
Would the hi-flow cat make the sound any better? I know the cat's got a sound of it's own, so with the new cat and the FM 40, I'm guessing it would be a good combination for the best sound. Especially because the flow's gotta pass through the cat first, and if it's gonna hit some old cat that prob kills a lot of the sound, it's losing a lot of that power and sound. Anyone ever put a Magnaflow hi-flow cat on their truck?

I found a magnaflow high flow cat that I contacted the person who own's it and I am currently waiting to hear back about it but I am going to put one on mine!!

Nice! I'm pretty interested in putting one on my truck, I just gotta find the right type and the right fit and what not.

As long as you get one that is 2.50 inlet outlet your good anything more and its a waste!!

That's what I figured, but last time I checked there were so many different types, I don't even know why.

Like what is the differences you seen in all the other types, just inlet/outlet size or internal construction??

I think it was both, which is why I wasn't sure what to get internal construction wise.

I have used Magnaflow cats on a few different applications.  A street/strip cars (L67 powered Grand Prix) that I helped build with a friend as well as a few on work trucks of my dad's.  All worked good and didn't really have any problems that were the fault of the cat. 

You typically will not get the service life out of an aftermarket catalytic converter that you will out of the OEM, but that is why they are cheaper.  Provided that they do not rust out and the engine is kept in proper operating condition, most OEM cats can last longer than the rest of the vehicle.

Yeah, it's not so much the life of the cat, it's just that I wanna know if the high flow cat changes the sound of the exhaust at all. I'd like to open up the sound a bit more.

headers would be the best for that...

well when i originally only had on my v-force muffler it sounded ok, but my cat was toast.....so I took it out and I'd say it nearly doubled in loudness.....

Yeah, only it's illegal to not have them. I wish it wasn't, because I'd be running dual straight pipes.

It's not really enforced here where I am.

will the brand of cat make any difference in sound or is a high flow cat a high flow cat no matter how you look at it... like will catco or magnaflow or dynomax, etc.. sound any different say with flowmaster 40 series duals?? also, what can you do about your oxygen sensor so it doesnt throw a code causing the SES light to come on??

they stick in what they called an O2 simulator....you only need 1 anyway....

where do you get the simulator??

IIRC, sticking an O2 simulator in is only legal for off-road use here in the US and will not pass inspection.

Kentucky doesnt inspect vehicles...lol so... if it werent illegal where could I get one?

Well, if you insist. It was easy, I did a Google search and here's just one of the hits.
