getting worse mileage?

I got my FlowMaster 40 put on my blazer over the weekend. So Monday I decided to drive to Votech (about 50Miles).

I used nearly a half a tank doing so that day.... WTF? I usually only use a quarter (which is still alot).

Could the computer be running different (done some welding on the brush guard and un-hooked the power (resetting the computer)).

I've also noticed that the engine likes to kick down to about 1500rpm at about 55mph (even going up hills) and if I gun it, it jumps up (or down, you know what I mean) two gears and runs almost 3000rpm.

Sounds about how mine runs RPM wise and with the acceleration.  Are you just goin off the gauge or did you actually refill and calculate it out that you used half a tank?

Could be your sending unit starting to go out..Mine reads 3/4 of a tank 24/7, Unless it's full, then it says 1/4...go figure.

Well, my gas gauge has always been inaccurate since I got it.

I was sitting just under a half tank that morning in my home schools parking lot.

Gas is about $3.29 here. I swear I'm not even getting 15MPG. But I haven't had the money to fill the tank all the way up and see how many miles I get out of it.

Sounds perfectly normal.
I can promise you that the muffler has not had any bearing on your gas mileage.

yeah its 3.15 a gallon down here... but i guess it doesn't help with that refinery blowing up and all... anyone here about the HUGE reserve they found out in the gulf?? i talked to a buddy in the oil business and he said they won't tap it... and everything that he pulls out of the ground goes back into the ground somewhere else... friggin oil people...

It's called strategic reserves...

Also with gas prices this high, remember people will steal gas..might wanna check into a locking gas cap

I saw $3.15 in Bullhead City today. Here it is $3.25. You know I have seen & have had it happen, going to aftermarket mufflers, exhaust, & even air intakes affect gas mileage towards the down side. Not always but I can think of a few times I had negitive results from MODS. Why I am not sure, But these modern vehicles are so precise in fuel mixture that Mods sometimes throw everything off. As an old school mechanic I have seen the same. I had a 88 D250, 360 4BBL, 4sp, 4:10 gears. I took off the smog crap, added dual exhaust, put on a new carb, & went to 3:54 gears, & the mileage on the road when from 13.8 MPG to 12 MPG. All I can think is I messed with the orginal design & set-up but never did a complete redesign. (Compression, cam, heads etc.) So some componets didn't match the overall set-up. Some of you may understand what I'm saying, some may not. To improve upon a design you have to match ALL componets. That takes engineering skills. Just adding a few add-ons can & does sometime give negitive results.

What food bill? I'm going on a strict fish diet! Hey, maybe I could sell the fish for gas money. Salmon goes for about $15 a pound.

$3.50 for regular unleaded, $4.00 for Diesel. Time to start drilling in Alaskin tundra, even if we have to drill through the head of an elk...I'm still waiting for that price plummet. In other news, gold reached $1000 USD per ounce today.

Chevy Lover ever thought about a paddle boat.  They go a long time on one case of beer.
