I'm sure most of you are familliar with Krispy Kreme donuts, but in case you arn't they are the absolute best donuts in the world.  And, best of all, right here in Raleigh, NC, the Krispy Kreme has a production line, so you can get the original glazed hot off the line.   Amazingly delicious.

So to the point of the thread.  This Saturday is the Krispy Kreme Challenge.  Its an annual race held here at NC State.  The rundown is this:

Start at State's Belltower
Run 2 miles to downtown Raleigh to the Krispy Kreme
Eat 1 Dozen Donuts
Run 2 miles back to the belltower

All in under 1 hour.  Last year the winner made it in 24 minutes, and I checked in with a beastly 56 min.

check it out Krispy Kreme Challenge 2008!

Now I gotta go run my daily 2 miles to make sure I'm ready for Saturday!

How many times do they let you stop and check your sugar levels???

Ummm no, I don't think so. First of all running is out of the question due to asthma and a bum knee...and eating all those donuts? I bet that'd be entertaining to watch though.

Haha that tends to happen..the unwritten rules say if you throw up it doesnt count..

Eating a dozen KK doughnuts is nothing!

Ah-Krispy Kreme. They opened up one up here in CT by me. The lines were soo long the first two weeks, they had to set up traffic cones and block off a lane of the berlin turnpike just for the drive-thru customers. That lasted for about two weeks or so. They went out of business about 3 or 4 months later. Dunkin Donuts is the king of doughnuts up here. My fav is the blueberry cake and thier glazed donuts are way better and less greasy than krispy kreme. I have to admit though, it was cool watching them being made behind the glass windows and getting a hot one right off the belt. Don't think I would be able to do any kind of contest though. I think I would puke.

Well they're free, but it's a fundraiser for the NC Children's Hospital, and you get a T-Shirt, so the registration fee is $15 to get donuts and a shirt, but only $10 if you're entering to run.  So basically, 10 bucks, you get 12 donuts, a sweet shirt, and youre helping kids in need

Dunkin Donuts is the equivalent of donuts out of a vending machine.  You can eat them if you are really craving sweets, but your crazy to actually call them good!  How they have made it selling their stale version of a donut is beyond me.  I think it's the coffee or bagels that keep them afloat.

Good luck!  I'd eat the dozen donuts, but I sure wouldn't run afterwards. lol

I agree! I prefer Krispy Kreme any day of the week...unfortunately we don't have a Krispy here is Crossville, or anywhere nearer than Knoxville, I think. I love Donuts!!

Up here in new england, Dunkin Donuts has been around forever and everywhere you turn, there is a dunkin donuts. Every chain that tries to open up with donuts goes under cause dunkin donuts is number one here. The same thing would happen if they tried to open a dunkin donuts down south. Everyone down there is soo used to krispy kreme's that dunkin donuts would more than likely go out of business too. As for the coffee, dunkin donuts is the best. Starbucks, or should i say "Fivebucks", is diesel fluid. Up here, krispy kreme's coffee was known as "dirty sewer water".

To me, Krispy Kreme's were too sweet. They made my teeth hurt. I'll stick with my dunkin donuts thank you.

Hrm..I don't think I've ever had Krispy Kreme coffee.. They're not really what comes to mind when I think coffee, then again I'm not a big coffee drinker..

And youre right on about the Dunkin Donuts down here..theres only 2 in Raleigh that I know of, one stuffed in the back corner of one of the shopping malls, and the other is in some run down shopping center on the other side of town.  Krispy Kremes are in every grocery store and gas station I can think of!

theres a few KK's around me with the HOT NOW conveyor belt/glaze waterfall/float-in-grease machine but they're a little out of my way going to school or work. if im gonna stop and get breakfast before school, im not gonna drive 4 miles the opposite way just to get KKs....    the local, family owned donut shop is plenty good and right on my way to school.

thats not to say i dont like the krispy kreme, i usually stop and get one when im near the store.

well...whatever trips your trigger, man. Sounds like a puke-fest to me, but hey...who am I to judge. Those are awesome doughnuts. So knock yourself out

And you are SO right Rachel. Tennessee needs more KKs.
