the box has been a adventure all its own. it will fit, with each sub getting 2.3-2.3 cubic air space - amp rack in front were the back doors open up, and im removing the bottom part of the back seat and installing a battery bank there.

it has been in design for around a month and a half easy, i will be tweaking it for about the next 2 weeks until i will start the build.

heres a kicker i will be using - Triangular ports. ported down to about 32 HZ. its gonna crush.

this box was originally used by my sponsor, he used it with 8 of the 800 watt MA audio subs to hit a 158. though he found some design flaws. I have corrected those found flaws, along with a few i found - the extended the box for 12 12" instead of 8 - and im using Napalms instead of 800 watt MA's. im all excited!

Why you using triangular ports?

part of the design, not as much for the shape, its just the best way for it to fit, and its different. from my research, it should work fine.

Gotcha!

Are you gonna round em off inside the box and along the outside or is it just gonna be like.... straight. not flared
boomtruck97

flared, nothing on the outside front of this box is going to not be rounded, after the box is built - the front is getting a half inch thick layer of fiberglass over it for support, all other sides will be double paned with .75 inch MDF board and pancaking a good bottle of liguid nails then screwed together, this box is not allowed to break at all. so i will build it right, possibly even overkill but thats exceptable.

it has begun. I started the fiberglass dash this weekend. using large quanities of thin cardboard and masking tape i created molds afo the dash as is and started building the pieces. i plan to finish this dash in about a month or so.

Also, i found out that i will get my workshop back for the winter. this is good because it will make the box build easier.

THE BOX: PROJECT TYPHOON

I have finished the box design finally, all the little bugs are worked out and i am ready to unleash it to the world. Before it begins i would just like to note that this box is dedicated to someone. A friend of mine that put a hand in during the brainstorming and design of the box. I took the basic design from one guy, then my other friend came up with how to better the design, we worked out some details, then i drew it up and made the sizes and angles work. My friend leaves next monday, he is a marine, and he will not be back until next October. the box is being dedicated to Marine Tyler Tomlin for not only being a crazy basshead like me but also for the design help and protecting our country. I have since named the box - The TYPHOON.

here we go
this is a box to hold twelve 12" sidewinders, upgradable to napalms - and fits in a 1992 4 door blazer. first thing to note, what are the 2 loudest box designs? V walls and ported boxes when done right. so i have incorperated both into the typhoon. the V wall setup is actually about 6 different V walls all at the same time - the initial idea is that the box has a diamond hallway in the middle, this creates 4 different Vwalls that all point into each other. that will create a massive amount of air compresion. next, we made a set of Vwalls out of the hallway. it pogressivly gets smaller as it goes back, like a four sided horn. a slot port in each corner is added to port each set of three 12"s at around 32 Hz.

edit: Linux's Gimp Image Editor FTW!

UPDATE!!!!! adding 2 4" round ports to each corner box at 11.5 inches long - porting the box down to 32 Hz.

Another update being made!!!!!!

new amps to be used!
Lanzar Optudrive 2000D amps - 4 of them. running 4 12's to each for 500rms/1000 max wired at .5 ohm

New speaker setup!
redesigned a tad after State MECA finals yesterday - not using 12 12's anymore.
i had changed it to 12 15's for a minute, now its

16 12" Sidewinders!

hehe, lets see how much crazier i get before this is totally done.

but at least you can feel safe knowing that it will only keep growing. and besides - i start the boxes construction in about a month or so. the dash is underway. i am running out of time to change things to much more.

i was going to, but i got some bad/good news last night - the setup is changing majorly! more power to less speakers. basically its changing to 4 of the 15 inch Napalms and a 3000rms DS-class amp to each on. the box is going to be a fiberglass wall. it will be amazing but insane non the less.

and im not loaded, that much at least - this is a multi month build and i have about 3 sponsors for the project now.

so you went from 16 all the way down to 4......and whats the diff between a class d and a ds?
boomtruck97
11/2/2006 9:21:48 AM
there are a few things to realize when i say that however. for one thing - the difference is that i was going with 16 12" subs that would be pushed hard by 500rms, and thats what they would have been getting. not im moving to 4 15" subs that will be getting 4000 rms each. that actually means the truck will be using twice the power as before and a quarter the number of speakers.

Another point is that instead of a mostly wood box, it will now be a fiberglass box - fiberglass doesnt obsorb sound as much as wood does. plus i will have more room for batteries and such this way.

Its not the number of speakers that determine the loudness - its the quality of product and how its used.

there is a comp car now that uses 4 of the 12" Napalms (im going to use the 15" Napalms) and it has one 4000D amp (vs. the 4 i will be using) and it does a drive by on a MECA mic at 133 in an enclosed wood box. im confident when im done to be in the low to mid 160's. at minimum - high 150's.

amp classes - if i recall digital circuit and d-class are the same, but it means that the amp is more efficient but only available for low frequency uses. check with Pat or Jon to make sure though.
