My invention!

I bet this is most likely already invented but I haven’t seen it yet. I think they should make a digital fuel gauge that tells you how much fuel you have left in your tank, such as it would read like: 12.3 Gal. Left
The way it would read it is the way towns monitor how much water you use. There would be a gauge on the gas coming out of the tank and would calculate how much gas has gone out and how much gas is actually in the tank. It would then calculate it but subtracting the numbers and then shows the results on the dash. I know, I have thought way to much about this.

yeah... dodge vehicles have done this for a couple of years... I test drove an 05 dakota that had a readout on a ceiling console... it also adjusted to tell you what gas mileage you were getting... the fun thing was burrying the gas (4.7L v8) and watching the gas mileage drop..hahaha

I think my Bravada tells you how far you can go with whats in there... Something like miles remaining or to that effect. I know my Bonneville does it. They both also have a fuel used counter.

ya, my moms grand cherokee has it as well. impressive that it gets 18 mpg in my mind.
Sorry to disappoint you. I don't have it on my truck, so you can invent one for me!! but not like I really want to know that I'm geting 13 mpg as of lately.

88 Town Car I drive has all of that jazz. They call it a "trip computer."

In my Bonneville it's called the DIC - Driver Information Center LOL
My old intrepid it was the "trip computer".

My girlfriends mom had a 97 crown vic and it had that but it had... Total Fuel, Miles To Empty, Instant Economy, it was pretty cool. If you do like 80 on the highway and put it in nuetral and go to instant economy it'll go up to 98mpg, thats the best I could do. I guess my dad got his 2005 Sierra to do 99mpg. And if you give on er it'll go down to like 3mpg. Its pretty fun to play with.

Youu can make your own. install a fuel flow meter. way more accurate than the "DIC" The GM system is consistantly inconsistant.

Scott, I find my Bonneville to be extremely accurate if you do not add that extra few cents. I always stop filling the first time the nozzle shuts off and I am always within 0.1 gallons.

Not only will it be more accurate for that kind of thing, but it is also a waste to top off because it only goes into the overflow to evaporate. You are paying for gas your vehicle doesn't use when you top off. I never top off for that reason alone.

wow........I had no idea that the extra gas goes into the over fill....*sigh* I do have a gas gauge use...it's called my trip. meter....my gas gauge broke a while ago..and it is fairly accurate....lately though....my gas millage has shot up...but that's cause I am just driving here and there...I don't put as many miles on her.....
