New to me is a 2003 Red Blazer Xtreme. It's a major step up from my 1990 Pontiac 6000. I loved the 6000 for its speed and handling, but as a college junior, I needed something better than a grandpa car. I love my new Blazer, little expensive on the gas, but better than having to worry about replacing parts every month. My blazer is practically fully loaded, minus leather and ABS. It has an in-dash 6disc cd changer, sunroof, heated mirrors, power everything, towing package, and just turned over 48000 miles. Is there anything important I should know about my Blazer (special codes, upgrades, etc.) When the wheels get warm, I sometimes get a squeaking, brakes or bearings? I'm thinking brakes, but read something about checking the bearings when replacing the rear brakes. Any suggestions? I do plan on asking the dealership about it though.

A very warm WELCOME!

And yeah, I could have sworn that ABS was standard on all Blazers since '96...

*EDIT* - yeah, just confirmed it, ABS was standard since '98 (not '96 like I posted above).

i'll double check on the ABS, paper they gave me says 4-wheel disc, but there is an ABS indicator on the instrument panel. So, not sure. thanks for the welcome, pics coming soon.

look under your hood you should see these 2 things. 1 is the abs pump and 2 is the abs computer

The pump and control module are one. The 2nd picture you have shown is the ECM (engine control module). But yeah, the brake lines from the master cylinder should lead to the ABS pump, not out to the wheels directly.

I have to agree with swartlkk that all blazers post 98 come with abs. my 97 s10 had abs and it was basic everything! more like a work model

Hey jon do you need a 6 disc? I have one going very cheap

are there alot of problems with extreme's?

not sure about problems....others might have a better answer. Mine is at 48 or 49k miles, and I think the rear bearings may need to be replaced. I'm not sure if that's average life for them or not. It's either brakes or bearings, but leaning towards bearings because the majority of the squeaking occurs when the wheels are warm and i'm driving under 30mph. Like I said though, these other guys can probably tell you more about problems with xtremes.

xtremes are the same as regular blazers with a few options: Lowered 1 1/2 inch in front(i think) and 2 inch in the back, body kit, quick ratio steering, and I am forgetting something.
