Today, leaving work I had an accident. Turns out suspension on these Xtreme's aren't all that great (it's funny now, but I wasn't laughing a couple of hours ago) ::sigh:: I was making a left onto a busy street when the rear started getting loose. Today was a typical Winter-day in Florida (beautiful morning, then it rains all afternoon) = no traction. Anyways, the rear starting swirving to the right so I counter steered and gave it a little gas. Then it swirved a little more violently to the left so I counter steered and maintained same pressure on the accel. Long story short, it swired two more times a little more violent than the last. And boom, smacked the truck right into a '25 foot tall Palm Tree. Thank God I hit that tree, or I would have flown over the median and slammed into oncoming traffic. Is my driving that bad? Anybody got any pointers on drifting I could use lol? I think i'm a pretty okay driver, but that was so ridiculous lol.<< Obviously, i'm fine. I banged my nose into the steering wheel, it's not broken, but it bled a lot.

Pics loaded fine, but lol they are awesome. You can’t miss the big cave in in the front of the blazer from the palm tree. This is pretty funny though, but also serious. This may be wrong but when I start swerving I let off the accelerator because the more you push it the more you are just going to keep spinning those tires, in turn making you swerve. So if I was in that situation I would have let of the gas and started to counter steer.

I'd say it's got a more agressive/disgruntled look now....lol. I really screwed up, stupid non LSD diff! But, if you let off the gas while the car is sideways it will regain it's traction and continue on the route that it's pointing to.... I guess.

Nah, I already filed a claim with my insurance provider. Besides, for some reason i'm kinda hoping it's a total-loss.

well we can't all be lucky like you and have an xtreme...i've looked this place(my surrounding counties) over for a damned xtreme blazer and can't find one that's been wrecked or whatever.

Do you plan on taking the money and rebuilding the front end or selling it and buying another blazer? I may be wrong; like I said but as long as you counter steer and let off the gas you should be fine. I have never tried this with a blazer but I do some pretty crazy stuff with atvs and that’s how I do it at least and it has never steered me wrong (lol...).

That sucks, Xtreme Blazers aren't too common here either. Eventhough the place I bought it from usually has at least one.

Well that really sucks, but at least your alright. Now you have an excuse to do a front end mod on it! You can get an aftermarket hood and maybe put the trailblazer front clip on it or something. That's something I'm thinking about for the future anyway.

Yeah, it doesn't look all that bad... Glad you are ok!

Now, about getting the back end out of shape (sideways), spend some time dirt track racing! If it goes back and forth, you are over correcting. And what you do with the throttle depends on how comfortable you are in the slide. A few years of go cart dirt track racing when I was 10-12 really helped me learn how to control a slide. Having field cars on my dad's farm helped a TON too!

Oh and an LSD or locker probably would have only made it worse.

About the front end mod. they'll give a check made payable to me and the lien holder. My lien holder needs the Body Shop estimate and the insurance company estimate. And they clear the check after they see that the repairs are done. But, the front left of the frame is bent so do you think it will be considered a total loss?

I'm such a noob lol. It caught me offguard i guess, because I've swung the rear on a standard cab 1500 Dodge Ram Hemi in the rain, and I didn't wrap it around a tree! Guess i just panicked. I didn't know a LSD would make it worse...that sucks.

Man that sucks!
I'm glad to hear that you're ok, although you'll probably feel more aches and pains in the next day or two.
Hard to say fron the pics, but it looks like 4 or 5 grand in repairs. That's without seeing the hidden damage.

As for drifting...come on up to Canada and we'll find you a snow covered parking lot to play in. Just let off the gas and steer in the direction of the skid to regain control. I kinda like to hit the gas a bit for added excitement though.

it depends on how much $ the bodyshop wants to do the work as to wether it would be a total loss... but if that were mine i would already be hunting down the body panels for it. it doesnt look bad at all to me from here, even if one of the frame rails is tweeked.
