hey everyone,

my fiancee and i just picked up a 1999 blazer black/grey leather 58k miles. it's a great suv and i'll try to post pics once i detail it.

had a quick question and i was hoping you guys could point me in the right direction. everything about this suv is great except for one little issue. the fuel gauge keeps rocking back and forth from empty to full. the tank is full, so we're not sure why it's doing this.

would anyone be able to help us out here as to what the problem may be?

thanks!

Hey welcome to the site.

When u say its rocking back an forth are we talking a FULL SWEEP? or just like minor movements while on hills and driving and all

mine was doing that when it was around 1/4 tank. it would go from 1/4 to Empty and back. ifs thats the case its most likely the sending unit inside the tank

it's making a full sweep. today, while at idle it would go from empty *with the low fuel light on* to a full tank. when we shut the engine down and all the gauges were at the starting positions, the fuel gauge went to 1/2 a tank. *which is what i think it's at now*

if it is, indeed the sending unit inside the tank, how much would it cost to fix that? parts and labor included?

thanks for your help on this guys!

Yeah, definitely sounds like a flaking out sending unit. It is also possible that the sending wire has grounded intermittently somewhere, but more often than not, this is a sending unit problem.
