My first day here searching thru the Forum, and I have already learned a bunch. You guys are awesome to share so much of your time and experience. Thanks!!!  I live down in Loreto, Baja Sur. I asked my mechanic which SUV to get... didn't hesitate is saying "Chevy Blazer with Vortec". Down here, it is important that your mechanic knows and likes the vehicle you drive.

Wife and I will use the Blazer as "thrasher" vehicle, though it will be a newer Blazer... '97-'02 fit the under-$5,000 budget, and all have Vortec 4.3 . When exploring new places for spearfishing, we get onto lots of small dirt roads with deep sand and vicious scratching thorns, cactus, and branches... I suspect "Blaze" won't look so pretty after a few years, but what the hell.

Any tips or links to Baja offroad adventures suitable for a Blazer are welcomed with gratitude.

Welcome!  Thanks for the kudos!!  So many people overlook the fact that all of the advice given here is free to them, but requires time and, more often than not, effort from those of us giving the advice.

Sounds like you'll be having tons of fun in your Blazer!!  Don't forget the camera for those offroad adventures!

Hey Swrtlkk & Hillbilly,

Baja Sur is the lower half of the Baja peninsula... there are acutally 2 separate Mexican states on the 1,000 mile peninsula, "Baja" (from the border south about 500 miles) and "Baja Sur" (the southern 500 miles, includes Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, Loreto, and many other great cities... ya'll).

Swrtlkk, I am a regular on 2 other forums so I have some idea of the effort and time required just to participate, let alone moderate a forum. Again, you guys are running a class operation... thanks very much.

glad you know what it takes to make this forum family oriented and helpful. Nice to have people know how much work(volunteer) it takes on our parts. and I have been to Cabo, had a blast. I want to go back. the song stuck in my head is George Straits "Seashores of Old Mexico"
