go to a auto zone, napa, etc and purchase the handle removing tool-$10 or less. While there ask about and purchase a panel removing tool-screw driver size with a fork like end specially designed to aid you in removing the door panel. ($10 ish too) Once inside fill us in with what you find-you may see exactally what the problem is but if not...we're here jp

yep, there is a crank window removal tool. PITA little retaining flip. Pop up the switch panel, take the screw out of the lock panel. Then two 8mm bolts under the arm rest. then just panel clips.

Hell, I just use a big screwdriver.
I've been swapping doors this past week. Anyone know why a 1998 Jimmy door power lock, only has two wires going to it......and a 2001 Jimmy has THREE wires going to the power lock? I guess we're going to have to change the locks themselves, in order for the wiring to work....(the plugs are also a different size).
No?????(< on having to change the whole lock mechanism)

I'm pretty sure that the two wire lock is a reversing polarity motor, and the three wire has a ground wire, and separate wires for lock and unlock. They are not really interchangable with out change more parts than the motors. I hope that helps.

Okay, I'm putting a door from a 1998 Jimmy, on a 2001(98 was totalled, but the door is fine. I just bought the 2001, which has a small dent in it. They're both the same color, so it only makes sense.
The wiring for the 2001 is staying with the vehicle, going into the 1998 door. So, the lock wiring is different.
Are you saying that I can't/shouldn't swap the lock mechanism itself, from each door? I can't see how there could be a problem, since it'll be the 2001 lock, returning to it's 2001 wiring harness. Maybe I'm missing something(wouldn't be the 1st time!)
