Well, my son, Kaleb, is already working at taking a few years off my life.

Tonight after returning home from Thanksgiving dinner at my parents, we proceeded to get my son ready for bed. Things seemed alright when we were downstairs although he didn't seem to be responding like he usually does. Given the fact that he's normally fast asleep at 8pm and it is now 9pm, I chalked it up to him being over tired. Once up in his bedroom, things started to seem even more out of whack... His head wretched back and his eyes rolled up into the back of his head. His right arm and leg started to twitch and that is when I called for the ambulance.

4 hours later... Turns out it was caused by a high fever (103.6*F) and a malfunctioning thermometer (that told us it was only 101*F when inserted into his posterior). The fever was in-turn caused by him having pneumonia, something that his pediatrician completely missed when we were in to see him for a sour throat and the sniffles...

Blood work showed everything fine on that front. The X-ray is what showed them the pneumonia... He ended up getting a shot of antibiotics and a few prescriptions that will hopefully clear up anything that's going on down there. It took him over an hour to snap out of the delirious state he was in and another hour to start moving his right arm and leg.

When we left the emergency room, his temperature was back down to 101.4*F and falling fast. He was himself on the way out waving to everyone despite the fact that it was midnight and he hadn't slept hardly at all since 10am! Phew... Thanks for listening guys/gals!

Thank God he's ok Kyle.
There is no worse feeling in the world than having a sick kid and not knowing what's wrong.
I gotta warn you though, it gets worse. They survive all the stuff that gives us grey hair and panic attacks.............then they get a drivers license.

Glad he's alright, Kyle. It's definitly scary when kids are sick. Chevy Lover's right though...the trouble I got into when I was a teen is probably more nerve-wracking than those times when I was just sick. But doesn't it just break your heart when they are miserable because they are so sick and you just can't do anthing to help?

Kyle...always a scary experience...we call that "new parent syndrome" the ever terrifying yet harmless seizure due to fever....gets people every time...it's scary as hell....especially since your thermometer said it was lower.....glad it was pneumonia instead of meningitis.....get read for the grey hairs!!!!! One experience lived through...onto the next!

Thanks for the support everyone! He's doing MUCH better today! I already knew about the febural (sp?) convulsions, but yeah, due to his temperature (or what we thought it was), we thought it was something much different.

i went through the same thing when iwas younger,i was 6, i had trouble breathing as well as a high fever, yet i never experienced the convulsions as strong as it sounds. after a short stay in the hospital(1 day) i was at home, taking an antibiotic biaxin and a pain med hydrocodone for a week and a half. kinda of like a little vacation from school. its great that everything went well, it is hard to catch. pneumonia can start as bronchitis and worsen into it. he'll be back on his feet in no time. ready to streak that hair!!!

Yeah, doing much better. Now we're dealing with the side effects of the antibiotic he's on, but that's fine. A slight rash and some funky colors, well, I won't mention it. But this morning he ate like a horse. One piece of toast, half a banana, a bowl of cereal, 1-1/2 of an egg (forced my wife to make more), and then he finished off with half of a container of yogurt. Oh and he drank down one cup of milk and another cup of juice.

So yeah, I'd say he's feeling better.
