In testing, the composite one fared better than the aluminum one...
Or so I've read, I can't remember when or where it was, lol.
I plan on building my own anyway... 3/8" or 1/4" steel FTW

Agreed, building your own is gonna be stronger and look a whole bunch nicer (especially if ya got a plasma cutter and some artistic ability). Either fire up your welder or hit up a buddy that has one and go to town. Its not a complex design or anything so wouldnt take too much to fab up, just maybe a little time and measuring.

my plastic one has held up great, stumps and all bounced right off. i did make skid plates though, out of 1/4" diamond plate.. you dont get much stronger than that. you just have to have a big enough bender to do it, the rest is just measuring correctly. i ended up replacing the stock composite one, and made one for the tranny and gas tank to replace that sheild thing that chevy thinks will work..

LMC Truck has them in plastic and Aluminum for all models but they are requiring you donate a large body part or get a second mortgageto pay them off. If you want the factory piece you would be better off inquiring with the local auto salvage and recycling technicians (junk yard junkies).
