Run 'Em!  What's the harm?  I have raced so many people that absolutely destroyed me in my Bonneville when I was going down to Lancaster.  Its all in fun.  Who cares!  Depending on what engine the Firebird has.  The old 2.8L ones were SLOW!!  The 3.1L f-bodies weren't that much faster.

What year firebird?  I don't see you having a chance unless he sleeps at the tree.  Auto's are better at the track too, so I wouldn't count him having an auto being in your favor unless he has some major slipping (that plus GM auto's don't have as much drive train loss as some other brands).

Honestly I would just do it on a 4 lane thats in the clear from a light.  Neither car is going to get up to huge speeds quickly anyway, just run it up to about 5 over and let off, but of course the track is always a fun day if you can get up there.

Hmmm...The Pontiac 3800s are actually not too shabby.  I rented a Grand Prix recently with one in it, and it was pretty quick.  Add to it a more aerodynamic Firebird body, and it's probably a little faster. The car isn't everything, though.  The driver also matters, so go for it!

He will mostlikely win.  Off the line, it is the torque that the 3800 produces down low will be the deciding factor.  But again, it is about the fun!

You could always bracket race (that is what I did).  Now that is fun!  Its all about consistency!!

Shoot, I probably accelerate from a light when I am being easy on the car faster then they will be accelerating "racing", wouldn't even be considered a real race, just two cars that happen to be side by side getting up to speed.

Bracket racing is a blast.  I came in second at a local Ford Vs Chevy shootout the first time I ever stepped foot on a track with the Z.  When she was stock she would run a consitant 13.24 every single time that day.

I used to when I lived out in Darien Center and still went down there when I moved to Byron, but now that I'm in the Finger Lakes, it is quite a haul.  I'll have to make my way down there again when I get the Chevelle all done up.

There is also a local 1/8th mile track that I haven't been to yet, but probably will this next season.  If for nothing else than to just see how people do.  I enjoy watching drag races too.  Just not as much as I enjoy racing in them.  I think they have a bracket racing competition at the local track too.  If that is the case, I might enter the Rainier.  So what if it does the 1/8th in around 10 seconds.  It should be consistent as all hell!
