Im kind of excited, I just paid off my Blazer today.  I bought it 7 months ago and now it is all mine. I got a large check from my last job since it had over 2 weeks PTO on it.  So I paid it off today.  I guess its probably not a big deal to anyone but I am happy.  This was the first car I bought with absolutely no help from my parents(co sign, help paying it, etc.) maybe thats why it makes it feel that much better.  Now its time to get serious with investing or save for my first F-body or  Corvette.

Maybe to make this post not so worthless I'll ask a question.  What does everyone else owe on theirs?

I bought my first car (88 nissan sentra 2dr POS) for $400 on my own at 16 up front. Then I got a 1994 Ford Taurus SHO (I was 17) which my parents bought and I paid them off within 5-6 months. Then it got totalled by some other idot slamming into me 2 March's ago, then I bought my 98 Blazer 2 May's ago (I was 18 in college, my parents bought and I paid them off within 4weeks). So I owe nothing on the blazer other than insurance every fall and tags in the spring. I am saving money now to mod the blazer this fall and then saving a bunch after that for a corvette eventually.

bought my jimmy for $9200+tax a little over 2 years ago(june 23rd 05-my b-day!) and I owe about $4000 on it. Got it alllllll myself, no co-sign, no help with payments.......prolly did at least $3000 in repairs (stooooopid GM pos)

but ya, once its paid off it wont be worth anything.........so it was kinda a waste of time and money.......but mostly money.

i dunno, dosent feel THAT great to do it all myself........would much rather have rich azz parents who buy stuff for me.........

I think that's quite an accomplishment for your first ride. Excellent!
My first car, I paid cash for...$99 and I had to push start it to get it off the lot. It's taken me a lot of years to get the vehicles that I have today and I'm glad to say that I don't owe on any of them.

well my parents bought me my first car (01 blazer) for 8400 in early fall of 05. i then sold it (8000) late summer 06. after that i bought my Gpas silverado in early fall 06 and i still have it today i think i did pretty good 16.5k with 43.5k on the clock and pretty well loaded up i got to keep the money for the blazer and put it towards the silverado and owed 8500 on it as of the day i bought it. now mid summer 07 i owe 5k and it  should be paid off by the time i graduate (spent some money on modding it)

Wouldn't everyone?  But this way you learn something and take care of whatever you buy.

Exactly!  I paid cash for all of my current rides, in fact I haven't had a car payment since May of 2001, and I'll probably never have another one.  When anything but my home is concerned, If I can't pay cash for it, I can't afford it IMO, so I save money until I can pay for it.  And that saves me TONS of cash in interest and full-coverage insurance payments.

Edit...almost forgot, CONGRATS on paying it off so soon man.  Everyone has to start somewhere, and I had a couple buy-here-pay-here deals to start off my credit, so I know you have to feel GREAT that it's paid for, and you did it yourself!  congrats!

It wouldn't have been a worthless post by just saying you paid it off!  That's more than an accomplishment - a lot of people don't realize the value of doing it yourself.  I remember in high school when kids would drive new cars, they were either drug dealers or had rich parents.  My first vehicle was $100 that my Father put a junkyard tranny in, and put a $600 paint job on (1979 Ford Tangerine Orange).  Second one was $50 that we put a $1300 (I paid half) refurbished engine in.  And the only reason Pops helped me out there was because I had been working for his business since I was 14 for free, or food and shelter as he put it.

To answer your second part, I put $1500 down on my truck in April of '05.  Sticker price was just under 10K, financed $8500 or so and now owe exactly $5,318.66.  I will probably put next year's income tax check towards it to knock out a chunk.

But back to the issue at hand, I'm happy that you have that burden lifted off your shoulders, AND you can say you did it YOURSELF!!!

I didn't have a car payment to make for about ten years until the Dodge Dakota finally gave up the ghost last year and I bought the Blazer. It had 16,500 miles on it when I bought it for $12,000 which I consider was a fair price considering it's condition and equipment (leather, power everything, etc.). I believe in buying a vehicle, taking care of it, paying it off, then driving it as long as it will keep going reliably. I hate having to make payments.

Isn't the point of owning you're own vehicle, so you can beat the ever loving tar out of it, and other people can't complain about you thrashing theirs? lol.

The 3 cars I've owned I've never owed on. My first car was a gift from my mom...or from my grandma I guess. Grandma bought a new car, gave mom her old one, mom gave me hers. My '86 LeBaron. I sold it for $100 after it started running on only 3 of the 4 cylinders. After that I bought my '90 Daytona Shelby in February of 2004, paid $1500 cash. After having my baby in September of 2005 I decided to buy something 4-door, and in february of this year I bought Bob for $1500 cash.

that is fantastic!!! there is nothing better than paying off a debt! As for myself...the blazer is my..10th vehicle I have owned....my dad taught auto mechanics for 25 years...so most of my vehicles were "project" cars...nothing snazy, but got me around. The two kia's before the blazer...never paid off...I come from a family of use the vehicle and then get something nicer (my dad now buys and sells at auctions.....so he's always got some "deal I shouldn't say no to" but I am happy to say...I paid just under 10,000 (tax, title, trailer fee...came from florida) I've had my blazer going on 4 years (longest I have ever owned a vehicle) and it will be paid off this november!!!!! woo hoo!!! I can't wait! but then again..up until last year...a car payment was the only thing I owed on.....man how a year changes things.

Congrats to you - it's a nice feeling to completely own your vehicle, glad you could get there.  BTW, are you the same BLK85 from the f-body boards?  If so, hey there!  If not, glad to meet you, lol.

I don't owe spit... thank god.  My mom still owes 10k+ on her Envoy. The K1500 is paid for... The only thing my family is paying for is the Envoy, the Carolina Skiff, and the house.

Welcome to the forum!
My Blazer was also free for me... My dad bought it for me. And its a 2000 too.
The only bad year for the Blazer was 2005, when production stopped...

Ya, I knew I remembered reading that somewhere.

1st vehicle: 1994 Ponitac Grand Prix SE 3.1L Coupe. Bought it for $5000 cash with only 32k miles in 2000. It was owned by an old lady that only used it to go get groceries so it was only driven once a week. Loved that car to death. I gave it to my little brother and he blew up the motor and attemped to rice the crap out of it. I still hate him for it but thats a whole 'nother story for a different day.
2nd vehicle: 1999 Chevy Tahoe 4door 4x4 LS 5.7L. Parents bought it for $25000 on a loan with 12K miles on it and it was only about 7 months old. My mom drove it initially but since she had to go farther to work and because she likes cars more she drove the grand prix and gave me the Tahoe to drive. Ran great but the trans started to go so we traded it in on my blazer.
3rd vehicle: 2000 Chevy Blazer 4 door 4x4 LS 4.3L. As i said it was a trade in and we paid $13000 out the door on a loan (we were upside down in the loan on the tahoe) only 2 1/2 years old with 52K miles. Currently just shy of the 140K mark (only 300 miles to go!) and Dale still runs strong. I forget how much i still owe but hes supposed to be paid off by the end of this year i do believe.
