Hi, I would like to know something about my 4.3 4x4 automatic Blazer 91. My transmission is broken lately and I would like to know if I can replace it with a newer one ?

Thank you very much!

You have a 4L60 tranny and can replace it with a 700R4/4L60 tranny from any 4x4 truck. Even from a fullsize. GM put these trannies in just about everything 1/2 ton and smaller. That includes fulsize pick-ups/SUVS, to the S-series, Astro vans, and other applications. Donors are at your nearest bone yard.

The only tranny you cannot use is a 4L60E, it is electronically controlled. It is the newest version of the 700R4/4L60/4L60e tranny. Can be found in the same vehicles. The 4L60E started coming out in '93 on the S-series trucks. So the newest tranny from an S-series is going to be a '92 and maybe an early '93, till they ran out of parts.

The easiest way to tell the difference between the electronic version and non-electronic version is on the passengers side of the tranny. If there is a cable hooked up, you have a 700R4/4L60 tranny and it will work in your truck. If there is a electrical connector, it is a 4L60E tranny and it wont work. Most bone yards can cross refference the tranny for you.
