Turn Signal Noise

The noise that you hear when you use the turn signal comes on when the turn signal is not being used. It does this every now and then and is starting to drive me crazy. Is it some sort of relay that is malfunctioning?

Possibly, Do the lights flash when that happens? Maybe your turn signal switch is going bad.
Good luck!

No the lights don't flash, just the noise. That's why I can't figure it out.

Definitely a relay. I've had that in another Chevy I had. Drove me nuts for months. It was a relay in the dash causing it. Should find out what relays are located in that section and see if that fixes it.

i know the relay in my 99 is behind the dash. tip the dash forwad by relesing the plasic clip and it has a i think red strap holding its very easy to tell just turn yuor blinker on and go from there.

is it the same rhythmic ticking that the blinkers make? my '97 blazer makes a sound very similar to a relay click, but only when the heater is on. i think it's the defroster vent in the dash expanding and contracting. it's pop riveted on, so i haven't been able to test that theory.

MD: Did you find out what the problem is with the noise? Iam having the same exact issue right now in a 98. but everyonce in a while it sounds like its shorting something out. But it is comming from behind the passenger side dash. Im affraid of tearing the dash appart b.c i dont know what i have to watch for with the air bag.

Unfortunately I did find out what it was. The entire turn signal switch needed to be replaced. They usually run about $200-300, but I found a new GM one on ebay for $105. If you need one let me know and I will give the guy's name.

Ill def. take his name if its the same issue. I was driving today and realized the noise isnt the same "rythme" as the turn signal click did yours sound just like the turn signal noise?

Yes, it was the turn signal noise. It would stop and start even when not using the signal. The noise came from behind the glove box in the signal flasher. Tried replacing that first and no luck. I got the turn signal switch yesterday from the guy on Ebay and it was a genuine AC Delco new in the box part. For $105 I am very happy. I am at work now, but will post the guys name when I get home.

Hello its me again. Did you by chance find out the information on the guy from ebay? This noise is getting very weird. It changes when I hit the breaks and a few times the turn signal stopped working and making noise when I applied the breaks but when I released them it started again. Then there were a few times when it would make a different noise the only way to explain it is it sounds like an electrical dog fience clicking.

Yes, the seller is listed as conquestautomotive. Just go to ebay and do a search for that seller and you should find him. If not let me know and I will help you. He seems like a very reliable seller and I am very happy with the part that I got.

I have the same issue in my 99, I was hoping not to have to replace the turn signal switch. Ughh.. thanks for posting your findings. I'll have to see if this guy has any more switches to sell.

It is absolutely the Turn signal switch. I had the same problem - only mine would go away when driving faster than 45mph.
It cost about $400 to have it replaced by the dealer.

My turn signal switch has been doing the same thing for 18 months. yes, 18 "tick, tick, tick" months. From the sound of it, my repair options are to get the part off of ebay and try to fix it myself or spend 300-400 taking it to the dealer? Am I missing anything?
