ughh well did that today....I tightened the loose rocker arm....well my shop teacher said it looks like it is pulling the stud out so i jus tightend it up..but jus a hour ago i am driving than i hear the ticking again...ughh wut should i do?? he mentioned taking the heads off and taping the stud..?????very confused

Are you sure it's the stud or is it a collapsed lifter or worn cam lobe?
Which cylinder is it?

If it is the rocker stud there are after market studs that will thread into the head and if you do this then you will have other options down the road for upgrades to the valve train.

stock gm heads used press in studs. the rocker studs are just press fit into the head. its possible that the fit has loosened up and the movement of the valve train is pulling the stud out of the head.
to avoid this problem the old stud is pulled from the hole, the hole is tapped out and a screw in stud is used. this is common in performance applications.

the other option is to pin the stud. you leave the original stud in but drill a hole into the head at the bottom of the stud, then insert a pin through the head and stud to lock the stud in place and keep it from pulling out. this could also be done with the heads still on the truck but you'd probably have to remove the intake to get the angle you need with a drill...
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MRG%2D806G&N=700+115&autoview=sku either option should be able to be done carefully without disassembling the engine. but you should make sure that it is in fact the problem. it could also simply be a worn rocker nut that isnt holding, in which case a new nut or poly locks (rocker nuts with set screws in them) would keep the rocker nut from loosening on you.

cylinder 8..and I most likely know its the rocker stud...because of how much thread was showing and how locse the rockwer arm was and let me tell you that thing was RADICULOSLEY..but he said the best method is the tap...so hpefuly ill be doing that next week in shop...

if its pulling out it should be pretty easy to spot since that stud would be taller than all the others.
it should be a pretty do-able job for you, just be careful that the metal shavings dont get away from you and you should be fine.

how hard is it actualy to take the stud out??and the put then new in one..will i need any special tools??..and it is the intake on cylinder 8 that has the bad rocker stud..

years ago in the race engines, we always would peen the studs because the force on the springs was so great, it would pop that stud out. Not a big deal for a machine shop to do.

to get the old one out, they do make a tool to remove it. your shop teacher should be able to help you here, he may have the tool to do it or know how to improvise with what you have available.
to put the new one in you simply need a tap to thread the old hole for the new stud. then it bolts right in with a socket or wrench.
