What does a capacitor help do to your system?

A capacitor helps regulate the input voltage, by storing a charge that acts as a buffer when the current draw spikes (a hard bass hit) It will help with dimming lights, and voltage issues related to the amp drawing too much juice, but I recommend a deep cycle gel cell battery to go with it.

A word of advice though, You are talking about a large electrolytic cap. It will store an obnoxious charge that will ring your bell if you dont know what you are doing. Make sure you either have a pro install it, or somebody who has experiance with them, and be sure it is mounted somewhere where there is no metal anywhere near the contacts. It will spark big time if it is shorted out. These things can be pretty dangerous.

yea my lights dim MAJORLY when bass hits....do you know of a good one online that isnt too dangerous?

They are all equally dangerous, but only if the installer doesn't know what he\she is doing. If installed correctly, you have nothing to worry about. I would spend the extra $$ and have an installer do it.

how much is a good one? could i pick one up like at walmart? lol

I dont think wal mart carries them lol. Most stereo shops have them but they are pretty expensive.
