latley I've been thinking of trading my truck in......mostly because its always breaking down.......buuuuut I REALLY REALLY wanted to pay this off. Now if I traded it in it would be for either a 4 runner, or a pathfinder (late 90's) and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about them. Blazers seem to have more HP, but those seem a little better built, and the interior is very nice. My cousin had a 2003 4 runner and the rear glass(hatch) was motorized!!! how sweet is that. Dont get me wrong I do LOVE my jimmy, but those are pretty tempting too. However I doubt this will happen because im done paying her off in june of 08, a little over a year @ 325/month.
are those suv's really as good as they say? and a little info on the suspension, engine, transfer case would be great. anyone owned one before? old old pathfinders with 300 000k still go for $2500 or 3000

my baseball coach from middle school had a 94 pathfinder 5spd. it was awesome, it had like 256,xxx on it and was still going strong. kinda like the 1st gen blazers.

I dont know too much about the pathfinders, but I know the 4Runner has a 3.4L V6 with either a 5spd manual or a 4spd auto, manual transfer cases. The 4Runner is a lot like the Blazer/S10, with a lot of the 4Runner mechanical and interior parts coming from the Tacoma. The 4Runners hold their value really well, theyre still expensive for used ones, I looked at trading my Blazer in about a year ago, but I couldn't come close to affording a nice used 02 4Runner.

would you say they have a better engine than the 4.3?

I'd go with a 4runner over the pathfinder.

I would ask or check around these sites. Of course you'll always find people that like or hate their rides.
4runner Paathfiner Personally, I would get a Pathfinder. Two reasons, first I've known some people (2) that have them and have not had any trouble; second reason is I think they are a bit easier on the wallet. So I think I could more easily get into a Pathfinder than a 4Runner.
Not much help, but it is an opinion.

Toyota. They build great rigs that can stand up to pretty much anything you throw at them,

go to cars.com research and compare the two side-by-side if you want the facts. . .

I think the 4 runner looks better on the exterior, yet to see interior. 4 runner also seems more off road worthy, they look like some big tires under there.....So they do not have the push button 4 wheel?

Hmmmmmm tough decision.
Both are nice
I would personally go for an Xterra. Very late model though, the supercharged where weak.

While your doing research find out how much common parts are going to cost you, and see if there is anybody in the area who fixes them.
We have a Mitsubishi plant down the road, yet almost all parts have to be ordered, including common things like brakes, alternaotrs, starters, etc. Most any autoparts stores will have any part I need for my Blazer in stock.

I almost bought a Toyota once....then I sobered up...jk.
If I had to choose, I'd pick the Toyota. I'd take it 'cause they last a long time, if you maintain them. I wouldn't be to happy with the cost of parts or the time involved with changing things like timing belts
From what I have seen, rust is a big problem.

What he said. Most likely you will see a big jump in the cost for repair with both of those vehicles.

well i asked my family mechanic if 1000 is reasonable for the pump and he didnt see anything wrong with it........thats with pump, filter, pressure tests, install, the whole deal.......plus he was like $68 an hour.......oh and that was an oem delco pump.
