I have an amp and sub in my future, and I want to know if my current power system will support it.

I have a stock alternater, new battery that performs fine. The amp is an alpine 400w max output, and an alpine 10 inch sub. I have an alpine head unit too.

Thanks

You should be fine with the stock set up. Im running a 1000w amp goin to 2 15s and a good kenwood deck. I have a stock alternator and a crappy wal mart special battery and it works fine. I did have to replace my alternator not long after i hooked the amp up but I replaced it with a stock one and have had no problems since and its goin on about a year.

getting a better battery and alternator is always a good idea if you have the money but you should be perfectly fine with your stock sutff.

I ran my 2500D @ .5 ohms on the stock alt and a yellow top

Of course i had MAD voltage drop.

You should be fine with that amount of power though

No problems there, but if your noticing the lights dimming, the big 3 is always a good choice.......if you do a search there is a how to.

You guys are the best! I really can't wait to see how it sounds. As I said, I have the Alpine head unit, I also have Alpine S types in all four corners and am very happy with how it sounds now, I can't wait to see how it will sound once I get the rockin bass in there!

Then you'll see why we're all into this stuff like we are!

yea you should have no problems at all......

im running an alpine PDX 1.100 (1200 tested RMS), 0/1 guage wire (haha overkill), a 12" Alpine Type X, interior "sex lights", 3 130Watt foglights, and a kenwood KDC X990 deck. the only thing i've done is the big 3 in 4 guauge--double on the alternator + wire.

if i have EVERYTHING on, at idle the bigger bass hits will drop my voltmeter down to about 8volts--but I almost never have everything on.....

Oh I definately already know what i'm into this for. I'm 18 years old and I first got some door speakers because I got a mondo discount from a friend, then I NEEDED rear speakers, then I NEEDED a deck with iPod hookups, now i NEED an amp and sub. I really should be saving for something else...I think. You guys are probably thinking 'ooo 18 year old gets all of his stuff/money from mom and dad' NOT THE CASE, bought my car-by myself, bought everything for it-by myself, will get amp and sub-by myself, work-with a few other people.

Now about deadening and building the sub box. Here is the plan...

-Build it out of that thick fiber board stuff from The Depot (Home Depot) so there are no rattles within the wood.
-Caulk every touching peice, damplify the **** out of the inside, then cover that with foam.
-Carpet the outside (for looks)
-Rubber grommets wherever it gets mounted
-Damplify the cargo area if needed

Think it will rattle?

Get MDF wood for the box. Use gorilla glue or TiteBond for the joints on the box.

And for sound deadening of the vehicle go to Home Depot or Lowes and get Peal N Seal. You can do 10 layers of this stuff for the price of 1 layer of dynamat and it's so much better.

Do you have a contract with these guys or something? Thats the second time you've said that. Anyway, sounds like i'm going to use the rest of the damplifier pro on the inside of the box and get some of your beloved peal N seal for the rest. Thanks a lot guys!

It's just simple like Home Insulation they dont know they have a gold mine with sound deadening for a car

yeah, what they said. or if you wanna spend the big bucks, buy some marine plywood and use it. it's really expensive, but it's f'n awesome. a friend of mine built a box for 2 12" L7's with marine plywood and it's held up good. oh, and on the mdf, you can get it at lowes for like 20 bux for a 4x6 sheet.
