Right now I have a 10" type S alpine sub powered by a 400W alpine mono amp.  My question is will there be any difference if I were to get a 10" type R sub? The type R is more powerful but if the amp stays the same will there be any difference?

Thanks guys!

Type R
  • 10" subwoofer with dual 2-ohm voice coils
  • Kevlar® reinforced pulp cone with Santoprene™ rubber surround
  • cast aluminum frame with perimeter venting
  • frequency response: 24-600 Hz
  • power handling: 200-500 watts RMS (250 watts per coil)
  • peak power: 1,500 watts
  • sensitivity: 83 dB

    Type S
  • 10" subwoofer with dual 2-ohm voice coils
  • pulp/glass fiber cone reinforced with Kevlar
  • Santoprene rubber surround
  • power range: 50-300 watts RMS (150 watts per voice coil)
  • peak power handling: 900 watts
  • frequency response: 30-700 Hz
  • sensitivity: 84 dB

I would vote little to no difference.

There probably won't be a lot of volume difference... But there's probably going to be a little bit of sound quality difference...

Don't ask me which way, I've never heard a Type-R in person, lol, just my Type-S.

also try upgrading your wiring first before you get a new sub, it can make a diff.

very little, but I bet the R would have a deeper sound is all.

your best bet would be a ported box

most likely wont notice any loudness difference if your keeping the same amp...actually you will probably be a little deeper in tone....do a ported box and upgrade the "Big 3"

The only wires I could upgrade are the big three.  I spent about a hundred dollars on rockford fosgate wires.  I am planning on doing the big three soon btw.  Before it gets too cold.

wiring will not affect your sound, but it will allow it to run more efficiently.

less strain on your electrical........but your only running 400 watts. If its going to stay at that the big 3 will be a waste of money and effort.

Or get a battery that's got side posts and top posts (assuming they fit in the Blazer) and then you only need to worry about the ground wires, as you can just hook the stereo to the top post (that's the way I did it in my old Mazda, Lumina, and S10)

batts with side and top mounts will fit.  that is what I always had. (kind of hard to fit 4 runs of 1/0 on a sidemount)!!

    That is definitely true, lol...

Hopefully the 900 or so CCA battery I plan on replacing the stocker with still fits...

I got a different battery post with tons of extra space on it.

As for the big three I still plan on "wasting" the money for the wires...5 or 10 dollars?  And the effort, shouldn't be too bad, I like working on my car.

The big 3 isn't really a "waste" as your truck will be a little happier with it...

When I had my sound system I also had a 10" sub and I wanted it to be louder but do to the room on my vehicle at that time I though I would buy a better 10" sub.  The only difference that I had was that I could turn it up louder with out getting more distortion and bad rattle but it really was not worth the money to me.  Don't know if this helps but I tried

mkay, well if the upgrades that cheap.....

you already have the wiring I take it, fuses, batt. connects. and so forth?

I do not have the big 3 done in my truck yet and I'm running around 950rms at the moment and I think my lights dimmed more with my old (smaller) alpine. alpine really dosent make an effecient amp in my experience, i think i remember reading it was around 60%.

while my sundowns  rediculous at closer to 80%@2ohm

That answers my question perfectly, thanks!

I like my alpine, every other component of my system is alpine, so I just followed suit.  I don't really notice any inefficiencies with this power level, so I'm happy with it!
