I'm thinking about getting a new steering wheel that has the audio mounted controls on them, will this just plug and play on my 2003 Blazer or no?  I know when I did this before on my 2000 Monte Carlo the wiring harness was there for the audio controls already when I pulled the steering wheel.

No, these are not pre-wired for steering wheel controls, unless the truck was equipped with that option when it was built.

Well you can't buy just the controls...they only come with the steering wheel so you'd have to replace it.

You gotta be careful replacing a steering wheel... you're getting into airbag stuff.

On my Monte Carlo when I purchased the new steering wheel with the radio controls, the wheel had the new correct wiring harness to just plug & play.  I can't believe the S10 Blazers don't have this capability.  What a joke & pain in the arse!!

The biggest problem is that there were a lot more Monte's that came with steering wheel mounted controls.  The steering wheel mounted controls for the S-series vehicles was a VERY rare option that wasn't a standard option in any of the trim levels.  This was truely an optional feature that a buyer or dealer had to request.

When dealing in volume, it is much easier to justify putting the wiring in all of them to not have to deal with the variability.  As many here have noted, on the newer trucks, there isn't even fog light wiring on many of these trucks that didn't come with the factory fog lights.  Again, due to the volume of sales that did not have this option, it was cheaper to not include the extra copper.

I've yet to see a Blazer/Jimmy with the steering wheel audio controls...

It's probably not that common of an option, so instead of running ALL the vehicles with the wires, they run only the ones that need it...

On your Monte, I've only seen one or two withOUT the controls...
