car slows down quick

yazan84 -> car slows down quick (10/24/2007 6:56:20 PM)

hey again my 1999 4 door blazer feels like it slows down very quick and whenever I speed up I feel like something is pushing it back i.e. don't get the power/speed expected!
I've recently done some tune up air filter, spark plugs, wire, disrbuted cap & rotor all were changed, but it's still doing the same thing!

Any thoughts?

How does it idle? Have you checked the fuel pressure? How about rapping on the catalytic converter with a wooden dowel or rubber hammer to listen for a rattling noise? If there are no other symptoms, I would suspect a fuel supply problem or a plugged catalytic converter.

i got one for you is your e-brake on just a lil bit??? a buddy of mine had the same symptoms on his explorer and his e-brake was engaged a lil bit.

Yeah I would check the e-brake, then make sure you arent in 4hi or something like that. Some other thoughts are that you need to change the differential fluids and/or the transmission fluid. Otherwise my guesses would be either a fuel delivery problem, which shouldn't make it slow down fast, or a dragging brake pad which could cause it to slow down fast and have a bunch of resistance to overcome to get going. Hope this helps, keep us informed.

I've doubt if it was the e-brakes. Because I pull it every now & then. Plus, I've never really used them, maybe once since I bought it! I mean I could be doing 65 mph on straight road then I take my foot of the gas pedal the speed reduces very fast it feels that I'm pushing the brake. Another thing when ever I put the gear on drive on straight road the car wouldn't move and if it does you'd barely feel it!

aris_unlimited -> RE: car slows down quick (10/26/2007 12:54:32 AM)

with your last post it sounds like you could have some potential transmission problems. It could be your torque convertor, best bet is to have someone check out your drivetrain. I would also suggest checking the transfer case.

yazan84 -> RE: car slows down quick (10/26/2007 8:14:41 AM)

thanks I'll check them and update!

Blazing Goat -> RE: car slows down quick (10/26/2007 12:37:45 PM)

Could also be a tune up issue.  When I first purchased my 2001 I had the same feeling.  Did the tune up and changed the tires (since they were old) and it was like night and day difference.

gohan69 -> RE: car slows down quick (10/30/2007 10:37:14 AM)

if your cat is plugged GM has a warranty on it for up 80000 miles or december 2008 just got mine replaced for free

yazan84 -> RE: car slows down quick (11/1/2007 8:30:56 AM)

I actually changed my tires couple days ago, it's accelerating a lil better BUT they told me that I need to change my upper & lower ball joints!
Do you think that has to do with anything?

rriddle3 -> RE: car slows down quick (11/1/2007 8:40:33 AM)

No, I don't think it has any connection with your original problem. Have you had the transmission and catalytic converter checked like we suggested?

aris_unlimited -> RE: car slows down quick (11/1/2007 8:46:30 PM)

upper and lower ball joints should not really affect your acceleration all that much. I replaced mine and at most it just made it handle a little better.

yazan84 -> RE: car slows down quick (11/1/2007 8:59:37 PM)

I've recently got a magnaflow exhaust system muffler and pipes, and it actually ran much fater though the car still slows down fast. I'm really hoping it's not that big of a deal because I don't have $1200 for a transmission!!

ZR 2 -> RE: car slows down quick (11/8/2007 6:38:38 AM)

let me know what happens.........think I got the same issue with mine as well
I found I have to give it more gas then the usual amount just to get it moving...

drperry -> RE: car slows down quick (11/8/2007 9:00:15 AM)

You should double check all your fluids, and make sure none smell burnt or anything like that...

If you can't remember them being changed, it might be a good idea to change them just because...

Also, is the A/C on?

yazan84 -> RE: car slows down quick (11/11/2007 9:51:16 PM)

The AC doesn't work! I'll check my e-gear tomorrow and update! could it be a problem with my fuel system?

drperry -> RE: car slows down quick (11/11/2007 11:12:53 PM)

It could be... but not very likely, as you're not really using any fuel to slow down after you let go of the gas, you're practically freewheeling.

yazan84 -> RE: car slows down quick (11/12/2007 12:08:00 AM)

actually the car is killing gas full tank wouldn't last 4 days on an avarage daily drive!!

thegr81 -> RE: car slows down quick (11/12/2007 12:14:56 AM)

When you have the truck idleing, have you had the hood up and looked at your belt drive assembly?? You said your a.c. isn't working, but does the compressor pulley spin free when not engaged or does struggle to rotate????

yazan84 -> RE: car slows down quick (11/13/2007 3:27:11 PM)

will check that. BTW does a bad hub bearing has to do anything with the car speed?
