does the ac hinder the engine even when it is not turned on? my ac doesnt work anyway and i was wondering if it still puts pressure on the engine?

The function of the A/C compressor clutch is to completely uncouple the a/c compressor from the rest of the engine. The clutch rides on a roller bearing and will have no more bearing on the performance of the vehicle than the idler pulley that replaces it. All you need to do is unhook the electrical connector on the compressor.
