as a few of you may remember from my previous posts i have no horn on my truck (see below). this wasnt really a problem because most people i know say that that is on "the list of things andy shouldn't have his hands on" along with baseball bats and matches. not neccesarily together but you get the point. (hint: it usually starts with "hey watch this") however like everything else circumstances changed and my annual inspection expires at midnight tomorrow. the only thing keeping me from getting it is the horn, i havent gone cuz i know they wont pass me without a horn.
and as some of you may also remember i believe lastcoupe advised me to simply splice the horn wire under the dash and hook it up to a switch within arms reach and i would pass. thanks again lastcoupe by the way. now the point of this rather long exposition is that i have absolutely no idea what color the horn wire is. now i could just go splicing into whichever wire takes my fancy however i've learned from my past experiences that is not a good idea. i dont have a problem with being a few days overdue but i would like to get this solved ASAP. also i've looked in both the owners manual and my Haynes manual and find no mention whatsever of anything relating to the horn.
so if anyone knows what color the wire is, or even has a good guess, please tell me. thanks in advance guys.

it is a black wire at the steering column.  will rest at 12v, then drop to 0 when the horn is activated.

ok there are 2 black wires. needless to say i dont want to cut the wrong one. one is a much larger guage than the other and appears to go straight up the steering column the other looks like 18 guage wire and goes into a black plastic 6 pack, comes out the other side and goes up the steering column with 5 other wires all bundled up. which one do i cut?

i would test them.  do you have a DMM that does continuity????  if not, pull off the horn cover, and take apart the assembly, and you should be able to figure out which is the horn wire.  best that I can tell ya. sorry.

and look up the song, "This Cowboy's Hat"  still gives me chills (esp the live version)
