That's not too shabby at all!

For what you do, it's more than enough

I would dump the card and get a 7900 GT from somehwere. Those 8500 and 8600 series are rubbish.

hey perry, you mentioned vista only recognizes 3.25GB of ram. on newegg, i found a deal with 2 2GB sticks for $112. is there a way to get vista to recognize all 4GB? i found out i can get vista ultimate from my school for $35 so if i have to i may buy that.   the brand was A-Data. good? bad?     they also had 4GB kits from GeIL, mushkin, PATRIOT and G.SKILL.  all under $200, which one should i go with?

PATRIOT - For sure.

the 8500's and 8600's are just economy junk. They dont perform well. They just slap the name on them thinking they will sell like candy.

Lets compare.

7900 GT
PixelPipelines 24
Core clock 500MHz
Memory Clock 1530MHz
Memory Size 256MB
Memory Interface 256-bit
Memory Type  GDDR3

8500 GT
Core clock 490MHz(Standard clock: 450)
Stream Processors 16
Memory Clock 800MHz
Memory 256MB
Memory Interface 128-bit
Memory Type GDDR2

I have to agree on that vid card.  The 7900 GT is a MUCH better card, but it will cost you more than $87...  ~$180 or so...

If you have a video card with 256MB of RAM you'll see 3.5GB of ram with ANY 32-bit version of windows...

And on the off chance it shows more, it CAN'T use it...

You need 64bit Windows to take advantage of that much memory.

I've been running 64bit for a little while now as a test, and other than one or two things with driver issues, it ran MUCH better than 32 bit.

Mine did... Some come with only one, or the other... But it'll specify on the package...

I can't really use mine, as I have the upgrade...

i dont think you need media center, i think the ZUNE software allows you to share all your pics and movies b/w pc and 360.  the way our old DSL was set up, i had the 360 plugged into the router and it could also access the pc. now that i have fiber-optic internet/phone the router plugs into the coaxial cable in the wall and the pc and 360 plug into it and i cant access my music from my pc anymore
