well I have done the big three and have a new battery (~1month old), and I have been getting some pretty bad voltage drop with only 800watts. Just wondering if this is normal with a stock alternator and would there be any way to help out with the dimming? btw i got a PA a2400db amp

If you mean 1800w(which I believe you do)..then you might need to look into a HO Alternoator.  I would say 1200-1300 is about the maximum you can push on just the big three without dimming...

thas right
maybe he means he has the subs wired up to where he is only getting 800 watts to them. and he has the gain turned down.

see that doesn't make any sense to me... Because if you turn the gain down, less output which means less power consumption right? the amplifier isn't constantly consuming its max power correct?

its called a clean signal, and a clipped signal, i believe.

power is created by the ohm load at the amp.

are your subs wired at 4ohms, 2, 1........8?...?

yes blazing loud is right. your power depends on your ohm load. what subs do you have and what ohm load they wired up at

Amp specs for reference:

I guess we're assuming you are running 1800 at 1 ohm?  1800 is a bit much for the stock alternator.

Actually you are both wrong. Its called impedence, not ohm load.

I have the subs wired at 1 ohm and its not really 1800 watts, I kinda doubt it does rated power maybe more of 1500

--and bout the gain not being represenative of power consumption, guess youn learn something new every day!

same thing really. different impedence different power rating, different ohm load different rating. just a bigger word really lol. the point we were trying to get across is that gain doesn't determine the watts

Still seems to be a bit much.  Time for an alternator upgrade.

what size wire, power and ground.

and where is it grounded.

I'm running 950rms.....and most of the time my dimming is pretty minimal, with 4 gauge and no big 3.

but then again this amp is pretty darn effecient.

did you sand away all the paint where you grounded it at?
