I have a 1994 blazer with the Vortec 4.3 v6 in it, it currently has a cracked block. I just so happen to have a brand new regular 4.3 block(non vortec)

My question is will the regular 4.3 block interchange with the vortec block in my blazer????

Thanks

From what I have read about the 4.3L V6 the only thing that would be different about the blocks is if one had a balance shaft to reduce vibrations or it was balanced externally with the flywheel and the harmonic balancer; and internally with heavier crank weights.

The "Vortec" refers to the design of the heads and intake to create a swirl in the combustion chamber to more efficiently mix air and fuel.

So if you are thinking about swapping engines then you might have to research what wiring connection differences there are between the two... and adjust accordingly.

All 4.3L engines are Vortec engines. The design got better over the years and it became an advertizing thing. He is correct, the heads is where the Vortec takes place. He is also correct, in '93 Chevy made the balance shaft internal, at least on the S10-Blazers.

At minimum you will need to swap your sensors and intake manifold onto the new block. This will keep which ever version of the fuel injection system you currently have, and the correct sensors for the puter to run that engine. Might have to swap distriburators as well. I forget the year now, however the angle between the intake and head was changed in later years, '96 I think. The intake bolts to the heads, and the heads bolt to the block. So you might have to swap the heads to match the intake too. Other then the internal balance shaft, the block itself hasn't gone through any radical changes over the years.
