On the way to work yesterday I was behind a Mazda RX-8..wicked nice car btw..but I hadn't ever noticed before it has dual exhaust.  I was kinda wondering why the rotary engine needs a dual exhaust. I would have thought it would sound a bit odd without the nice rumble like a traditional v or inline.

Anyone out there ever owned/driven an RX-8?

Its probubly not a true dual exhaust, it probubly just splits after the muffler.

Yeah, almost no true dual exhausts left.

I owned an RX-7 (same difference) and it had the false dual exhaust. But the do sound badass. I looked like it had 12" glasspacks right before the 4" exhaust tips. It sounded great for a little rotary motor.

I drove a maserati and i hated the flappy paddle deal.

I wanted an RX-8 but after a long talk with a good friend i changed my mind.

I wouldn't call the RX-8 fast... Well, compared to the Blazer, it would be, I suppose...

But it's comparable to my old Lumina Z34 as far as acceleration goes.

However, an RX-7 or a turbo RX-8 is delicously speedy! lol.

They weigh the same, and have almost the same power... Z34 had a little bit more torque, and the RX-8 has a little more HP.

Gearing is the key factor in this one.

Edit: scratch that, the Z34 had an extra 40 ft/lbs of torque... or so.

Edit 2: RX-8 has a 200lb advantage, lol.

But still not amazingly fast ;)

Well the Z34 must have been a lot faster than the standard Luminas then because I had a 93 standard Sedan with a 3.1 and it was definatly not faster or even in the same catagory as the RX8.  Yes I have driven RX8s before.  They are nice but to slow for me for a "sports car".

The Auto Z34 had 200 HP and 200ft/lbs of torque...

Off the line, the 3.1 would get a bit of a jump, then the Z34 would hit the power band, and pull away like nobody's business, lol.

It took GM a supercharged 3.8L V6 to go faster than the 3.4 at the time

And yeah, the RX8 is kinda slow for a "sports car" which is a shame, because it drives so nice...

That would explain why you always say yours was "fast".
