I have a 2000 blazer 4.3 and the engine has a light knock on start up first thing in the morning. Seems to go away after a minute or so and I don't hear it again until the next morning. Any idea's or is anyone else have a similar sound on start up? It only has 49K on it.

Thanks!

What State are you in? I live in Chicago and mine started doing it once it got cold. This is my first winter with my truck but i'm guessing it's normal.

Hey guys... Mine does the same thing... Is what I think it is , is oil pressure... Depending on the viscosity of the oil your using it dosent get pumped through the sytem fast enough causing a knock noise or lifter tapping... After a minute of idling on its own the pressure comes up and the noises go away..

Recommend that you let your truck idel on its own untill the presure comes up...

ok my truck ocasionaly makes noise when i start it up in the morning and sometimes in the evenings sometimes it sounds like really bad valve clatter sometimes just like a lite engine knock from bad gas and usualy when it does this my oil pressure gauge will hit around 80 at idle and stay at 80 or climb higher when driving and i have waited till the truck is at normal opertating temp to drive still getting a knocking noise that will increase with acceleration and oil pressure needle will get buried

in case no one has noticed i have a lot of things wrong with my truck and am about ready to shoot it

By the sounds of it my idea isn't the problem.. Do you know if your getting lifter noise or more like a rod knock???

How many miles are on it... I have 170,000 on mine and it sounds like a sewing machine with the lifters.... Hope to motor in it in a few weeks... Your motor could be getting tired maybe too.

I had a '94 Nissan Altima that had some lifter noise. It had 160, 000 miles on it and I was using a 10W40 oil. My mechanic told me to change my oil and use a 10W30 oil. He also told me to pour in a bottle of Marvel Mystery Oil. I did and no longer had a problem with it.

Also keep in mind that your oil is going to react differently in different temps.

I'm not sure how widely it's distributed, but we sell a product called Lucas Oil Stabilizer at work, that stuff works wonders.

yeah i know the oil will react differenlty at different temps but temp doesnt seem to affect it and i'm using a 5w30 since everyone said it was the best tyoe for my blazer and using a heavier oil could cause lifter noise. does it sound like i might have a broken push rod? im thinking about replacing the oil pump since the sound over all seems to coming from the back of the engine possibly bottom and that damn coolant leak is p***ing me off i just cant see any outside leak.

also to add i have noticed a knocking sound coming from the passenger side front tire area and it sounds similair to my old suburban and it had a bad lower ball joint but that was a 2wd do 4wd have ball joints?

a torsion bar wont make noise when the truck is sitting still...a broken pushrod would only get worse, and break other things..ive broken a few ni my racing days...one of the cylinders wouldnt be firing if you had a broken pushrod.

ok i was at the s-10planet site looking at the egr mod and it said to install i should drain the coolant so im wondering if a bad egr gasket or what not might be letting coolant in to the engine is that possible?
