UA Local 179 2nd year pipefitter/steamfitter. sounds like kyle engineers it and I build it hahaha.

I just got back from a pulp mill in northern saskatchewan, 1st time I was ever in 1, wish I brought my camera.

Never seen that many trees in my life lol stacks 30 feet high and 200 yards long, and there were like 20 rows, poor trees. My journeyman said that was half from the last time he was there.

And it stinks in there!!!!!!  like really bad....made me think of my old job at the hog slaughtering plant, smelled like dead animal in some parts, which dosent go over well if you had some beers the night before lol

but ya fab, rig, and install pipe, supports....that kinda thing. Ive been practicing welding, mig'in isnt a problem, but stick is gonna take some practice.

What is your rate in the navy??? I used to be active duty as well, I was a E-5/ Boatswains mate!! Now I do security for mattel as my tax paying job and on the side I build minitrucks and lowriders, anything from custom suspensions to custom frame work!!!

I came in as a boiler tech, got a commission at my 15 year mark through the LDO program, did the surface engineering thing on a couple more ships and then changed my designator to security.  Turned down O-4 so I could retire next year as I got offered a job working with gas turbines making more than what I am now.  Win-win all around!

I'm a produce manager for United Grocery...and I love what I do. If I could pick any job it would definately be this one. Having OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) there aren't too many jobs I can do well that agree with me...and allow me to keep my sanity all at the same time!

i have worked in a place like that here where i live called bowater paper mill, and its the most nasty smell and no matter how long you are there you never get used to it, and they have about 10 acres stacked w/ huge trees ready to use, that stick welding will take some practice but you will get the hang of, but that x-ray test is rough no matter how much you practice.

yep, definatly, the xrays are a little much. especially when you see like "Radiation" signs up and everyone is running in the opposite direction lol

gives us an excuse to go for break early

right now, due to lack of work pipefitting, im sprinkler fitting, and it sucks!!!!! with them its quantity over quality.....and im not that type of person. and these hours do not count towards my pipefitting ticket.....so im quiting asap. Going to try and get into a fab shop here in saskatoon.

thats just wrong, you shouldnt have to a squirter. hopefully you can get back to the real trade, i could never do it because of the lack of quaility, it goes against everything the UA tries to promote.  hopfully you dont far enough behind on hours that you have to take a set back on advancement, here they set you back 3 months dont know if its different for you.
