In no way would I call a Sony Xplod a "good" amp...What JL's are you buying and what power do you need at what ohm load...You need to be more specific so we can help you find what you need. "Sony Xplod 1000w amp" tells us absolutely nothing but a brand name and a made up power number...

I just realized that no one has mentioned yet WHY they are junk. sonys (and most mobile audio products sold at walmart) are bottom of the barrel equipment. Sony amps in particular (post 1990), are completely over-rated meaning that they dont actually produce the rated power they say they will. They are made with cheaper internal components (the caps, resistors, mosfets,etc...) so the reliability is thrown out the window. You can waste your money on the sony amp if you want, and it might work for you for a while, but you will be buying a nwe amp to replace it within 2 years maximum.

Look for an amp in your price range and post back with the model #

suggestions include kicker, alpine, hifonics, rockford, in other words spend an extra $50 and get clean power.

The only good thing Sony has nowadays is the Playstation 3.

Who knows if that will go downhill along with the Sony name?

my sony digi camera is pretty decent for under $200

and if bluray wins the hd battle, it will be a huge boost for them.

So far, i've heard blu-ray is winning the disc player sales.  Plus it sounds like blu-ray is the better quality format.  I won't be investing in either anytime soon though.

Directed arent the best out there, but I would definately put them above sony...Make sure you are matching ohm loads and power ratings man. Not matching your subs to your amp usually results in a very depressing outcome...

I would advise you not to talk to a salesman. Some are trustworthy but most of them will lie to get you to buy something. If you could tell me what model JL's you have an what the voice coil configuration is I could reccomend a few amps that are decently priced for you...

That model came in three diffirent configs so once you find out which one it shouldnt be hard to find a decent amp at a good price. 600wrms doesnt cost too much in the mid-grade amplifier category...

Since you have two Dual 4's then you will need an amp that does 600wrms at 1 or 4 ohms. It looks like the directed amp is rated 600wrms @ 1ohm, so that amp should work just fine. You'll most likely only get 450-500wrms out of it but that should be plenty to run those subs...
