Hi guys. Just stumbled onto your board tonight. Been reading the posts. Looks like some real knowledgeable people here. I have not yet pulled plugs and have not yet checked compression recently, so sorry I do not have complete info for you but have a symptom not yet mentioned here, perhaps you are familiar with my problem and can point me in the right direction. TRUCK INFO: December 1998, 4.3L, 4 door, 4x4, 125,000 miles, bought new, good maintenance REPAIR HISTORY: Driver seat handle broke, coolant flushed several times, new windshield (92,000), compression check 165, 170, 165, 165, 168, 168 (100,000), PVC / fuel filter / cleaned throttle body (112,000), Plugs, cap, rotor, new rear axle seals (115,000), new water pump (121,000), new radiator (122,000), front ball joints / idler / pitman / rotor (125,000). My daily drive, city/highway, MPG has been around 17.2 for a few years now. All of a sudden it is 15.2. Starts up fine but if I go on a short trip, try to re-start it, it seems like it is not getting enough fuel, so I jump on it, pedal to the floor, after 4 or so turn overs it catches then increases in RPM cleaning itself out. Does not happen all the time, perhaps 70% of short trips, after the car has not sat long after it was shut off. If it sits a decent amount of time, it start up fine. Also sounds like a minor fluttering within the valves, though prob. just another rminor issue. Did not know if this screams X problem ??? Brian F. Welcome to the site. Might not want to post personal info, never know who is reading as this is a public forum. Tkae your ICM out and have your local autoparts store test it. Also test your fuel pressure. It should be int eh nieghborhood of 60psi prior to start and it will drop 2-9psi when running.
