Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have an 03 blazer xtreme with the 4.3L engine. Recently my car has been running close to 260 degreese and I have little to know heat inside the vehicle. My cousin suggested a stuck thermostat so I picked one up the other day hoping to throw it in, but I don't have the necessary tools. I found the thermostat housing but I don't have any deepwell sockets to get in there. Does anyone know the size of bolts on the housing off hand and whether they are metric or standard? I'd rather buy the one socket than a whole set. Is there a thread anywhere that gives a step by step on how to change out the t-stat? Also any advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks!

I am betting that the thermostat is at fault and you boiled off quite a bit of coolant.  Lets hope that it didn't do further damage in the process...

i had to jump it to get it into the garage today(my factory cd changer and it's dumb security system seem to drain it sometimes. i could rant on forever about that among other ridiculous problems with this car). After I got it started it seems to be running really rough now. I really hope I didn't do any major damage. Gonna have it looked at tomorrow. Thanks again for the advice.

Over heating an engine can cause a lot of problems.  The worst of which would be a head gasket failur.  If your head gasket has failed, you should not run the motor.  By running your engine with a failed head gasket, you could risk pushing coolant into the oil, severely shortening the life of the bearings in the bottom end of the motor.
