So for those of you who are not aware. I recently took my 98 Blazer in to get the transmission looked over because it was slipping. They charged me $90 and told me that the transmission was slipping and it needs to be replaced. What I wanted to know was what was wrong with the transmission. They told me they don't work on transmissions, they simply replace them. Fine, whatever. The next issue was that when I went to pick it up, it wouldn't start. They told me that it had appeared that mice had been chewing at wires up in the engine compartment. When we had it inspected later we found that they were not mice marks, but they had been clearly sliced with a knife. This was not there before we brought it in as we knew this truck inside and out. The next issue was that they tried to tell me my alternator was bad and thats why it wasn't starting. They quoted me $500 to have it replaced. Well, again, when we brought it home to look at it, we found that there was a plug that had been disconnected from the alternator causing it to fail. Once plugged back in, it worked just fine. I asked if it was possible for the plug to have come undone on its own accidentally. No, it was a rubber sealed plug that was deliberatly disconnected. Needless to say, I will placing a stop payment on that $90 charge. I am so pissed off right now!!

You should file a report with the better business burea. They have a website where you can register complaints so other people can see them and hopefully not get the same bullshit service.

I would suggest you speak with the upper management of the dealership in question. Be polite ALWAYS, even when turning to other means such as calling customer assistance or the BBB. I have been in your shoes before and believe me, the old saying "You get more flies with honey" goes along way when trying to get through to the service manager or upper management. Keep notes on everything. Get the name of everyone and anyone that looked at and/or worked on your vehicle while it was in their care. If/When you call customer assistance (do this before BBB), have all of that information available along with the information on the dealership you are dealing with.

Customer Assistance from GMs website:

I am very picky about my dealerships. I have found 2 VERY good GM dealerships within 30 minutes of my home. The closer (by about 15-20 minutes) doesn't have a body shop, but they have a VERY thorough repair shop and I have been very pleased with the warranty work they have done for me in the past. I know that warranty work isn't the same as walkin stuff, but it goes a long way in making me feel good about them and the posibility of bringing in out of pocket repairs to them.

Now, my experiences have been night and day when it comes to dealerships and much of it hinges solely on the service manager. In attempting to find a dealership to do the warranty work for my Bonneville, I stopped in at the local GM dealership even though they didn't specifically sell/service Pontiacs. The service manager told me that pretty much all aftermarket warranties sucked and he'd be surprised if the work that I need done would be covered. 7 miles down the road, the service manager said, sure no problem, we can get to it tomorrow. I never went back to the first dealership even though it was 3 miles from my home.

You all make me so happy that my boyfriend is a certified mechanic, and I am learning from him.

what, and be just another pretty face. Honey, I have worked on jet engines, helocopter engines, and cargo plane engines for the last 8 years. I don't think it will hurt to learn about car engines. Besides, every guy loves a pretty girl covered in grease.

I agree...my friend Kim is a mechanic and she was on a poster recently for women in trades. You should have heard the amount of phone calls that came ino her shop asking for her to work on people's cars.

What? That she was a great mechanic? People said they'd rather have a girl work on their cars because they've been scammed by men so many times before. I was surprised that so many men wanted her to work on their cars...so many guys have this attitude that women have no idea how to fix cars.

I got some questions for you, mOOnwater. In your picture of the Blazer it shows a woman washing the tires. Is that you, and if so what is the tattoo on your arm? (sorry, love tattoos) Second, did you repaint your blazer? I can not get mine to shine like that no matter how much wax I use.

Hmm.. I'll have to try to win some of that stuff. I'll try any *car care* product once, especially if its free!

Next on my list is Liquid Glass. I have been reading A LOT about it on other boards and will try it after a good wash, polish, clay bar, wash on my Bravada when I can get the time to do it.

I've used liquid glass, and it works great. The only problem is that is has petroleum products in it. That will destroy your paint job over the years. It will literally start to eat away at the paint. Look for car care products without petroleum products in it and it will protect the paint like it is supposed to.

A friend of mine has used it on his vehicles for 10+ years and his oldest (an older Civic - like late 80's early 90's) still looks perfect.
