I assume an electric fan will provide me with some minimal improvements in fuel economy and HP. Does anyone have numbers and/or experience with this install? I don't want to go through the effort and expense of installing an electric fan unless the improvement is notable.

I currently get 17MPG and the performance is satisfactory.

You might realize around a 0.5mpg increase and possibly free up at most 10hp at the wheels...

You can save a lot of money by digging through cars at your local wrecking yard with a tape measure and some tools. Just measure the fans in anything from a Ford Taurus to a Dodge Spirit to see which ones match up to the size of the rad in your blazer. Then you have to make up the wiring for it (make sure you get the wiring pigtail from the wiring harness of the donor car). This harness will have to have the relays for hi/low as well as any wiring to the temp sensor and a signal from the A/C (you want the fans to kick on high when the A/C is on).

I have contemplated doing this, but just haven't gotten around to going to my local pick-n-pull to grab a set of fans ($10!!!).

I put on the Flexalit fans on my blazer and would do it again if I had a 2nd chance. I got maybe 3 or 4 mgp highway by doing so and like 10 horses extra. It was very easy to put in. THe trick is getting a air hammer with a wedge and losening the nut on the clutch fan that way. That was the hardest part then the electrical is as easy as reading. I still have not hooked it to my ignition so it stays after the car is off but will shut off when cooled down. Its better too becuase you get a lot of extra space in the engine compartment. The flexalite fans are very sleek and very powerful.

Thanks. I'll check into the info.

If I gain .5 MPG per tank that is the same as "earning" and extra $1.98 per fill up.

This may be a project in my future!
